Deployment Milestones: A Brief List

Wednesday, November 8th, 2017

A few of the deployment milestones we’ve reached since August:

  1. The day of.
  2. When you wake up the morning after and realize this is just the FIRST DAY.
  3. The moment you get caught up on laundry and put away your spouse’s last item of clothing.
  4. What feels like the first major crisis.
  5. The first time some service person says “Well, talk it over with your husband…” and you say “Well, actually he’s deployed so I’ll probably just decide on my own because I haven’t heard from him and I’m not exactly sure when I will and things are complicated so…”
  6. A holiday.
  7. The first REAL major crisis.
  8. When you finally get an email.
  9. The first time some service person says “Well, talk it over with your husband…” and you say “No, it’s just me”.
  10. The first trip to urgent care.
  11. That moment when you make a big financial decision you wouldn’t usually dream of making alone.
  12. First major crying breakdown.
  13. The first OMG WHAT am I even going to do major crisis.
  14. When some service person says “Well, talk it over with your husband…” and you just say “OK” because it’s easier.
  15.  Doing something you hate and usually your spouse would do but that’s not an option.
  16.  Using your power of attorney.
  17. Losing 10 lbs because being on a diet is easier alone.
  18. Completely throwing your diet out the window because being alone is horrible.
  19. When you wake up one morning and realize this is totally normal now.
  20. HALFWAY.

We’re not at that last one yet, but it’s getting closer every day.

I’ve been having a bit of a battle with the school slash school bus company and today I won. I’m so relieved. As much as we really like being busy and on the go, I don’t like being late, breaking rules, or writing bitchy emails. Ok, I SORT of like writing bitchy emails, but not over and over. But starting next week we should just go back to regular busy – now with 100% more karate for Evan!

Friends, meet Tiffany. She’s cool. She’s a photographer. She’s also a Navy wife who just arrived in beautiful Connecticut. Well, actually, she arrived just in time for the Endless Winter Of Snow And Despair, but somehow managed to stick it out until things improved and is now enjoying the absolutely PERFECT weather we New Englanders like to pretend we get 90% of the time. We’re very good at lying to ourselves.

I am tiiiiiiired. I don’t even have a good excuse beyond doing lots of stuff this week – my darling darling baby slept 10 hours last night. But this weekend was busy and this next week is going to be super busy. I feel like a broken record, because all I post anymore is complaints about how BUSY I am and I know it’s boring. But really, once you have three kids you’re pretty much always busy. Even the baby thinks I should try to sit on the couch more – he’s really tired of being nursed in uncomfortable chairs.

Sunday:

Obviously when you see a pile of leaves you throw them

See, I swear, I buy the wraps FOR HIM. HE LIKES THEM.

I wouldn’t let a kid that close to my computer with a marker, but Daddy is nicer than me.

Friday:

friday1

We bought this car when I was pregnant with Caroline. It had 16000 miles on it.

friday2

THE MOST unflattering photo of myself I’ve ever voluntarily posted, but his face is too good to pass up. WTF IS ON YOUR HEAD, MOM?

friday3

New hairs are nice.

Saturday:

saturday1

Stealth photo of my husband in uniform during the comissioning ceremony.

saturday2

WHY AM I STILL AWAKE AT A PARTY AT 9 PM?

saturday3

Yeah, I ate that.

I am once again shocked at how many photos of my own face are in this post. I’m not a selfie person. Or at least, I didn’t think I was a selfie person. But that might have had something to do with being hugely pregnant for what felt like the last decade. It was also SO NICE to get my hair cut (even if I had to bring the baby) that I’m going back in 5 weeks to refresh my color. I have nice hair when I take care of it, and since right now I feel old and fat, I need to work on what makes me feel good. Maybe in a couple weeks I’ll do something REALLY crazy, like schedule a facial or a massage.

Oh who am I kidding, if I had money for a massage I’d just spend it on another wrap. I cannot stop drinking the babywearing Koolaid.
