Blue Star Museums Summer: Springfield Museums

Thursday, July 26th, 2018

The Springfield Museums are located in Springfield, Massachusetts. There are 5 different museums located on one campus, including the fairly new Amazing World of Dr. Seuss. The kids and I had actually been once before last year, right after the Seuss building opened, and it was pretty busy. I was expecting it to be busy again this time, since it was a summer weekend and the weather was pretty good. But it was significantly less crowded than it was last year. We ended up spending the entire day in Springfield, with a quick walk for some Pokemon hunting, but then went back to see more museums. We were literally the only people in the entire art museum building besides the staff.

Everyone in the family had a good time, with a good variety of stuff both grown-ups and kids can enjoy. It’s definitely worth the drive if you’re in this part of New England.

My Week(357) in iPhone Photos

Wednesday, September 20th, 2017

I can barely remember this week. I can barely remember yesterday. I can barely remember my own name.

Sunday:

Everyone loves our new washer

Matching dinners

I bought a mop.

Monday:

Rocks we found at the park!

Back to school night hot dogs

He looks so smug

Tuesday:

Checking out the white rhinos

Kangaroos know how to relax

Never holds still

Wednesday:

BACK TO SCHOOL THANK GOD

Checking out his new playground

Cupcake destroyer

Thursday:

I cleaned downstairs. I cleaned upstairs. I came downstairs to this.

Not excited about school.

Everyone home again and back to chaos

Friday:

Slowly moving marbles

Cream cheese face

Still learning how to selfie

Saturday:

Rock hunting

Caroline was convinced she could climb this tree

The Niantic turtle

Today, my little baby Finnegan learned how to climb up onto the couch. He still does not know how to climb OFF the couch safely, so my stress level is pretty high. Keeping him from cracking his head open is not my favorite way to spend our afternoons, but then again the ER waiting room would definitely be worse.

I got rid of the old sink from before our bathroom reno today. It feels like a huge accomplishment because it’s been just taking up space in the nursery for months now. Hopefully I can keep taking tiny productive steps until the house is truly clean and organized.

The Big E 2017

Tuesday, September 19th, 2017

Previously: The Big E 2010, The Big E 2011

The Big E is what they call the Eastern States Exposition up in Springfield, MA. It’s like the state fair for all of New England – there are buildings for Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Each state has at least one “thing” that is very very popular. Some of them are obvious (Vermont has lots of maple things) and some are less obvious (Maine baked potatoes are a BIG DEAL and I don’t understand). This year Connecticut had lots of craft beer and wine, so obviously we picked the right New England state.

This is the second time we went to The Big E with these particular friends and I could not have done it without them. Two extra adults means we can actually have fun instead of having one long, sustained meltdown that snowballs from Lincoln to all the kids to me crying next to the fried cannoli stand because I can’t take it anymore. But that did not happen! We had fun! And I only lost Lincoln once!

(I did in fact lose Lincoln, but Lincoln was never lost. He just decided to go back to where everyone else was waiting while I stood in the Maine building freaking out. At least I know his sense of direction is really good?)

I did not take many photos (by my standards) because 4 kids is still a lot of kids even when I have help. But I did better than our visit in 2014, which I never got up on the blog at all! I don’t have a single picture of Finnegan, because he was either chilling in his stroller or on me the whole day.

Fake eating fake lamb pops in the “you should eat more lamb it’s delicious” booth located next to the adorable lambs.

A very nice 11-year-old girl named Clara let us pet her sheep. She won a bunch of ribbons. I can barely keep a houseplant alive.

This is a singing refrigerator.

No one wanted to eat here.

Evan recently learned what a “photo bomb” is.

Baby lobsters at the Maine building.

Lincoln loves rides.

And that’s the end of fair season! Next up: FALL FUN SEASON. Time for corn mazes, pumpkin patch, and cider mills.

My Week(354) in iPhone Photos

Thursday, August 17th, 2017

I AM ONLY ONE WEEK BEHIND NOW IT’S A MIRACLE. But now I really really need to stop blogging and do some work on this birthday party I’m throwing on Saturday so I probably won’t really catch up for another 3 weeks.

Sunday:

KNUFFLE BUNNY

Screen zombies. It’s getting old.

Monday:

Big bottle for a little baby

Standard tv watching in our house

Tuesday:

Rose garden sun dial

Maybe it’s time to get him some shoes

Wednesday:

This is Finn’s favorite game

Skeptical I REALLY need all this stuff at the craft store

GET TO WORK, CHILD LABORERS

Thursday:

Toddler for sale, everyday low price

Finding rocks and hiding rocks

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, BABY?

Friday:

Waiting for blood draws is exhausting

More rock painting

My new blanket for the USS Virgina. TIMELY.

Saturday:

Mad Scientist station at Cousin Camp

Custom made pizzas

Borrowing a neighbor’s swimming pool to end our awesome camp day

My parents are here to help with party stuff and I am SO unprepared. This is not going to be my best party. At this point I’m going to be impressed if there’s a cake and no construction actively occurring. Have I mentioned that I am TOTALLY OVER having people in and out of my house and not having a working full bathroom?

I don’t care what breaks in this money next – I’m throwing a tarp over it and ignoring the problem forever. NO MORE HOME IMPROVEMENTS. EVER.

My Week(353) in iPhone Photos

Wednesday, August 16th, 2017

I AM SO READY TO HAVE CONSTRUCTION PEOPLE OUT OF MY HOUSE FOREVER. I swear to god, the number one advantage in DIY home improvement isn’t cost, it’s the fact that you can stop and use your kitchen to make a sandwich if you want without being in anyone’s way.

Sunday:

Someone made some poor choices

Really tired of gymnastics nursing

Monday:

Still asleep when it’s time to leave for camp

Book Barn adventures

Why do we even own toys?

Tuesday:

I swear I’ve taken this photo every week all summer

Watching for ugly fish

Littlest aquarium fan

Wednesday:

He refused to move until I took his picture

You can see through my walls

Thursday:

Playing in the water

Waiting for the bridge to go up

I took a picture so I could go buy an identical diverter and I still got the wrong one

Friday:

No stop don’t run away

I don’t know what’s behind me

Being an A+ big sister

Saturday:

Seussian shenanigans

Thing 1 and Thing 2

Super cool art and play space

I’m trying to pick a grey paint color again and it’s making me insane. Because why not spend three days agonizing over paint colors when the painting has to be done by Saturday?
