Weekend Fluff

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

First, we remove the onesie.

Then we go for a little drive.

Time to break for a little snack.

Mmmmmm...watermelon.

Oh you mean moving the slide into the kitchen so I can reach the counter ISN'T a wise choice? LOOK I HAVE A BELLY BUTTON!

Nothing to see here. Go back to the couch mama.

Tickle fight with dada

And now it's time for a little chillaxin'

Today’s pictures brought to you by the letter F.

F is for “Fluffy butt”
“Fun”
“Freakin’ adorable”

and of course

“Father’s Day”

Happy Special Dad’s Day to my wonderful husband E! I hope our little terror knows how lucky he is to have you. I know I do.

At Last

Friday, June 18th, 2010

It’s sort of ironic to use “At Last” as your wedding song when you’re only like, 8 years old when you get married. Ok, I was 22 but I might as well have been 8. I think the only reason my mother didn’t run screaming in terror when her 21 year old came home for Christmas with a diamond ring and a bag full of bridal magazines was that she and my dad also got married at the ripe old age of 22, exactly 30 years and 3 days before I did. And they’re still going strong.

Lucky for you my external hard drive is STILL at the computer doctor on life support so my 2000+ wedding photos are unavailable. It’s a shame really, since I could have easily posted all 2000 of them today for the wedding blog hop. There isn’t a single one I don’t absolutely love.

But since I’m working off of just a few I stole from myself on Facebook and a few I scanned in from my album I’ll try to keep this short. Short-ish. Medium length. Not ridiculously long.

I was the kind of girl who had (has) a box of stuff labeled “For My Dream Wedding” and kept a running list of which color flower/cake/bridesmaid dresses/bubbles/carpet runner/butterflies should be used for whatever month my current dream wedding took place in. I was basically Monica from Friends, although I like to think my crazy bridezilla moments were limited to breakdowns at work behind a closed office door rather than screaming fights with my bridesmaids or vendors. But who knows, maybe EVERYONE knew I was crazy. It may have been a good thing that E was deployed for 90% of our engagement or he might have called the whole thing off when I made him go to the FOURTH cake tasting because I couldn’t decide between the lemon curd or the raspberry filling.

I absolutely ADORED obsessing over those details and I happen to think everything worked out as perfectly as any wedding possibly can, from the inexplicably gorgeous weather (August in Charleston is NOT supposed to have 0% humidity) to the surprise fireworks during our rehearsal dinner cruise (put on by the city for something else but that I claimed were for me) to the leisurely carriage ride around the city between the ceremony and the reception so E and I got some quite time together before the drinking reception started.

Sometimes I remember every detail so well I can’t believe 2004 was 6 whole years ago and not yesterday. And sometimes it feels like the whole day was just something I saw in a movie once. But either way it was totally amazing.

Going to the chapel

And we got married

My dress tried to eat the flowergirl

My girls. Their only request was that my wedding colors NOT be blush and bashful.

The pattern on the cake matches the lace on my dress. The photos on the guest book table are from our parents and grandparents weddings

My aunt caught us on the street to take a picture. It's one of my favorites from the whole day - the driver's face, my laugh, and Sticky Fingers in the background!

We had an open bar. I think that explains the dancing.

Now it’s your turn! Link up all the pictures of your own wedding you want!

What a Zoo!

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Literally. My parents, E and I took Baby Evan to the National Zoo in Washington on Saturday. It was…exhausting. And hot. And I was sort of unimpressed by what I remembered as a really cool zoo from my childhood – the walking to animal ratio was much too large and the one animal I though Baby Evan would really like (giraffes) were no where to be found.

I know pictures of zoo animals are really boring so I’ll try to keep this short. Of course, I will fail.

zoo1

Baby Evan's first ride on public transportation. I think he liked it.

zoo2

OMG A PANDA IT'S A PANDA IT'S BLACK AND WHITE AND A BEAR AND FROM CHINA. TRY NOT TO PEE YOUR PANTS.

Seriously, the amount of freaking out of a panda eating bamboo was epic.

zoo3

Baby Evan getting in on the exciting panda fun. Although he thought it was a dog.

zoo5

Number of Ergos spotted: 4. Number worn by men: 4. Number of people who looked at my carrier and told their husband "Oh I think that's the Becco": 1.

zoo7

For the record, the zoom on my camera is not that good. This cheetah was REALLY close.

zoo7

Stupid llama. Plus ten point for getting the reference. Minus 10 points for admitting it. Minus another 10 points for me since this is actually an emu.

zoo8

Aw it's a gorilla family. The baby was the cutest thing ever.

zoo9

This is the point where Baby Evan lost interest in the animals and started wondering when nap time starts.

zoo10

I suspected this was a fake alligator because of the moss, but I saw him blink so I'm pretty sure he was alive.

zoo11

I had to physically restrain myself from shouting "Aslan! Aslan! Take me to Naria!" I'm kind of a crazy person when it comes to lions.

zoo12

HAHAHAHA! You thought I couldn't get breastfeeding into a zoo picture post didn't you? I can get breastfeeding into ANYTHING. But really, I loved this sign.

zoo13

After the zoo Mom and Dad took us out to lunch while Baby Evan slept in his stroller. When he woke up our waitress bribed him to be good with Oreos. I think he enjoyed them.

zoo14

Baby Evan made a lot of friends on the metro. He clearly doesn't understand the "listen to your iPod and don't make eye contact" rule.

zoo16

Although by the end of the day I'd say he was ready for his own metro card.

Next time we’ll do real Washington, with lots of monuments and museums and freeze dried ice cream. Which is the Washington I remember from my childhood.

Piggies and sheepies and cows, oh my!

For part 2 of the Great Family Vacation of 2010, we’re visiting my folks in Northern Virgina. It’s sort of like the opposite of Ohio – absolutely no extended family but a zillion options for entertaining ourselves. We are (probably (very)(very) foolishly) going to attempt the zoo and maybe a few museums on Saturday but this morning we went in a much more rural direction. Literally. It’s sort of surprising how quickly you can reach farmland from the ‘burbs around here – just drive west for a few minutes.

We visited Frying Pan Farm Park, clearly a popular destination for school trips, possibly due to the fact that it was free. Dear Residents of Fairfax Country, Thanks for paying for all that hay and chicken feed with your taxes. My kid had fun. xoxo Suzanne.

I put my sister in charge of the camera, which is why this is such a nice shot. My pics were all of chicken butts.

Baby Evan was surprisingly unafraid of even the large animals. I hope he never encounters a bear or a lion or something more threatening. He'd be all "KITTY!" and try to pet it.

I think he liked petting the sheep because it reminded him of the yarn I never let him play with.

I think this is the most hilarious picture ever. I shall call it "Envy and Shame".

Oh mama, I totally feel your pain. And I've only got ONE.

When we got home we found our own wildlife to play with out in the yard. Baby Evan isn’t really old enough to really be into reptiles yet, but I think that phase is quickly approaching. He would have licked this poor turtle if we let him.

Poke poke poke poke POKE POKE POKE POKE

Make him come out Mama. Why is he hiding Mama. WHY MAMA WHYYYYYYYY?

After the baby got bored, I put Mister Turtle out in the woods. I hope he forgives me - he doesn't look like a guy you want on your bad side.

O-H!

I’m hope at least one reader can finish that for me.

E’s family threw his grandmother a huge 86th birthday party over the weekend so we made the 11 hour drive out and back to help celebrate. Because how many 86th birthday’s do you get? Plus if we didn’t make it Granny might have kicked our butts. She’s pretty spry for a great-grandmother.

Once when E was little, Granny spanked him. When he cried and told his mom on her, she asked "Well, did you deserve it?" and E said "Yeeeeeees". You don't mess with Granny

I’ll spare you the fourtybazillionteen pictures of a bunch of people standing around eating hamburgers and jello salad but here’s just a few of my favorites from our trip.

Don't worry kid, they're just ONE side of your family.

Evan Original Recipe and E playing bocce. It easy to see where the competative streak comes from. And for the record, E lost BIG TIME.

Cousin Jack. I hear he had a pretty impressive birthday party this year too.

My scale says I've gained .5 pregnancy pounds, and yet somehow my FACE has gained 15.

Cool magnetic pendulum at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) Hello me!

"Your fake sink SUCKS. How am I supposed to get my clothes totally soaking wet?"

"Much better. I am appeased by your offering."

This is only the two-pully chair. Which means I'm lifting most of my own weight. Which, let me tell you, is no small amount. So what I'm saying here, is RAWR STRONG!

Real men wear babies in flowered Ergos while carrying their sister's diaper bag for her. Rawr again.
