It was one of those weeks that FELT super busy but we really didn’t do much. The feeling-like-crap for a few days didn’t help – neither did the heat – but the weekend so far as been good. I’ve got another book review to write (as soon as I finish the book)(which is due tonight)(eeek) and some BlogHer conference freaking out to do and dinner on the patio to plan and children to snuggle, so I’ll be back but probably not until Tuesday. Hope your weekend was fantastic!

Saturday:

WE’RE GOING STREAKING!!!
I tried wearing make-up. I don’t think I like it. My face feels heavy and it doesn’t seem to help.
Tiny cameraman says this isn’t a good angle for you, Mom.

Our weather has been hit or miss all week, but I’m hoping the thunderstorms hold off long enough today for some outdoor family time and cute father-kid pictures. I need one for my Father’s Day craft project/present. Yes, I know Father’s Day is tomorrow but it wouldn’t really be MADE WITH LOVE unless it was also made at 10 pm the night before. Love likes to procrastinate.

Knitting Little

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

I am currently less than 50% of the way through two separate adult-sized sweaters (one for myself, one for E) so of course I’ve spent all my spare time this week starting brand new small projects instead of working on them. I am a fickle knitter who gets bored with the same yarn and the same pattern over and over and little extra projects keep me from quitting altogether.

Here’s what I’ve made in the last week and a half:

Reusable coffee coozies

I finally finished up the last 2 of these I wanted to send to friends. All I need now is time to get to the post office. I’m glad these are the last two I’ve promised to make because I am sick to DEATH of them. (Original pattern found here, but I’ve changed a lot of it)

My first attempt at baby socks

I have always said I hated knitting socks and I’ve only ever knit one before. Not one pair, one SOCK. The second one is less than 1/2 an inch long and still on my needles. But BABY socks are baby sized, and these took only a couple of hours. I made a counting mistake on the first one that I just fudged and a couple of knit vs. purl mistakes on the second one that I had to rip out and do over but even with the frustrating parts they are so adorable I don’t even care. I see a lot more tiny socks in my future. (Garter stripe baby socks pattern found here)

Blanket buddy rabbit

This was SO EASY and SO CHEAP to make – it’s done in dishcloth cotton, which you can buy at Walmart for only a couple of dollars and takes less than 1 ball. It’s all seamless so nothing can be pulled apart and the face is stitched on with yarn so there are no choking hazards which makes it perfect for babies. I had this yarn left from the very first time I ever bought yarn (EVER!) and found the pattern in one of my 1-skein pattern books. If you’re a new-ish knitter who only makes hats and scarves this would make a great next step project.

Baby and toddler bibs

More dishcloth cotton AND a pattern I made up myself. Well, ok, I modeled it off a nearly identical bib my friend Megan gave me as a baby gift but still – no pattern. You are only impressed if you’ve never knit a stitch in your life. Otherwise you know it does not get any easier than a garter stitch square. These are gifts for someone who happens to be a knitter so I hope she knows they were made with LOVE even if it wasn’t with hours and hours of time.

Tiny bunny

Finally, I present OH MY GOD the cutest little 15 minute knitting project ever from Mochimochi Land. I stumbled onto these on Ravelry this afternoon and made this one approximately 30 seconds later. Then I spent two hours squeeing over their other patterns and wondering why I hadn’t been knitting these adorable little things for months and months already?

You know your husband loves you when he'll pose with your tiny bunny

I have already made another, slightly larger one for the toddler to play with and plan to make a few more. They keep multiplying like…well…rabbits. I will build a bunny army!

And now I guess it’s time to get back to my sweaters. Sigh. At least I have all summer to finish them.

My Week(22) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

The theme of this week is “My toddler is extremely energetic and my baby sleeps a lot”.

Sunday:

E needed new pants, so we went shopping. I'm not sure Little Evan approved.

We actually put quarters in the machine and he was OVERJOYED

Monday:

We're super classy in the morning.

He wasn't so sure about Stroller Strides that day. I wasn't so sure about the way he chose to wear his hat.

Tuesday:

More Stroller Strides aka Caroline's nap time

I sped-read my way through a book for the BlogHer Book Club

I made wise choices at dinner - zucchini with dill & vinegar, pork with Dijon mustard sauce

Wednesday:

Wednesday was cleaning day. This one counter plus the sink took an hour to clear.

Thank God she sleeps so much or I'd never get ANYTHING done

Thursday:

We went to Stroller Strides but my stroller wheel broke (boo!) so we went to Target instead for some impromptu grocery shopping. DELICIOUS.

Nap time in the big boy bed. He wanted me to sit here & watch him sleep

Fourteen different places to sit in this room and he wants to climb on the toy box

Friday:

Box sitting in his vintage sweater, watching some Today Show

It rained so I wore my new rain boots

Knitting at the yarn store with a little help from Caroline

Patching holes, touching up paint & hanging art in Little Evan's new big boy room

Saturday:

Wearing his preppy pants

I baked & froze cookies for next Saturday's party

Caroline finally woke up enough for some tummy time!

I took time today to get my hair cut, pick up some (more) baking supplies and make homemade tomato sauce for dinner. Tomorrow I’m decorating for Evan’s 2nd birthday (so we can enjoy the decorations all week), trying out cake and frosting recipes and doing my weekly grocery shopping. WHEW! I’ll be so glad when we get to April 10th and I can just relax – oh and enjoy myself, since that’s my birthday! 29 baby!

Beware the Fools of April!

Friday, April 1st, 2011

No, seriously guys, it’s April 1st so DON’T BELIEVE THINGS. I actually spent several months last year thinking someone I knew was pregnant because even though I KNEW it was April Fool’s Day her Facebook post was really convincing. It took me MONTHS to realize she had been kidding. I freaking HATE April Fool’s Day because I feel like I am always the person who doesn’t get the joke and ends up looking like an idiot and I hate looking like an idiot more than I hate anything else.

Well, almost anything else. I think I hate the fact that it still feels like February even though it’s April even more. I am so ready for spring – or even just NOT SNOW – that I’m refusing to dress like it’s cold even though my poor toes are freezing in flip flops and I’m shivering in capri-length leggings. I will MAKE it be spring.

But I don’t want to risk getting sick just in time for the sunshine so I spent the last few nights knitting myself a spring neck warmer…

I lightened this picture approximately 200% because there is NO natural light in my house right now

Flower Scarf pattern by Robyn Diliberto (available for download on Ravelry or here as a pdf) The yellow is just what I needed. I want to knit a giant blanket out of that yarn and hide under it until this stupid day has passed.

The next three days are going to be crazy busy with errands and baking and patching holes in walls and cleaning and…and…and…I should really make a list, or it’s going to be two hours before Little Evan’s party when I realize I didn’t make a cake.

Speaking of the cake, does anyone have a really great recipe for a yellow cake? I mean, if I wasn’t crazy I’d probably just get a good old Better Crocker cake mix in a box, but I’m just insane enough to make one from scratch if I can find a recipe that someone SWEARS is delicious. Oh and I need a frosting recipe. And maybe a suggestion for some sort of filling between the layers. Have I mentioned I’ve never tried to make a real cake before?

Excuse me while I go weep into my KitchenAid.

Happy Friday and Happy April and DON’T GET FOOLED.
