My Week(42) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

Lots of food and baby face photos this week. Both are delicious.

Sunday:

It must have been E's morning to get up with the kids because there's no way *I* dressed the kid in stripes and plaid.

Wii Basketball counts as both exercise and toddler entertainment

She looks vaguely distressed at being naked. HOLD ON TO THAT FEELING, at least until you're 30.

Monday:

Bossing everyone around after Stroller Strides

All the naptime essentials: blanket, milk, dump truck, fire truck.

Caroline really looks up to her friend Maddie. BA-DUM-CHING.

FaceTime with Daddy, who was out of town for work.

Pasta with herbed butter, goat cheese and heirloom tomatoes. My FAVORITE summer meal (especially since I had actual fanct heirloom tomatoes!) but E hates it.

Tuesday:

I wasted a dollar on the merry-go-round in exchange for my kid putting his shoes back on.

HEY MOM WHATCHA DOIN???

Fun fact: E and I had one of our first dates at Sticky Fingers in Charleston, so I always buy the sauce when they have it at Stop & Shop.

Wednesday @Mystic Seaport:

The Amistad. Like from the movie. I think. One of my friends was the only woman to help build it. I think. Wow, I am FULL of facts. Maybe.

Playing pirates with Maddie in the children's building

This game is called Skittles. It's really dumb. E was OBSESSED.

Thursday:

Stroller Strides. NO PICTURE PLEASE.

Feeding the ducks at Oldeeee Mystickeee Villageeee. The extra "e"s make it AUTHENTIC.

I guess she got over her issues with nudity.

Friday:

Look kids, this is what we used in the old days, before Pinterest. YES PLEASE FALL.

What are you waiting for, a written invitation? It's nap time Mama!

Squash at the CSA. For eating, not just decoratively arranging as a centerpiece. Which is what I do.

Baby Faux Hawk

Saturday:

Sponge Bob Coma. Blame the husband.

Vanilla french toast for breakfast

Finishing up my living room redecorating

The recipe for Monday’s pasta is ripped out of a Rachel Ray magazine, but here it is online. E was gone Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday, which might have made this the longest week of my life. By Friday I had given up on leaving the house and succumbed to endless Nick Jr for the toddler and nursing for the baby. The rest of this weekend will be spent on the cleaning and laundry I neglected in favor of naps and hiding in the bathroom taking deep breaths. I’m hoping to have my colorful new living room photos up on Monday, a new recipe later in the week and video of Caroline being adorable somewhere in between. Cross you fingers for a tantrum-free Saturday so I can get my sanity back!

My Week(41) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Despite only being actually hung over for about 20 minutes on Saturday (Bob Harper’s workout sweat the booze right out of me) I’ve been BlogHer hung over ALL WEEK. Having to care for other people’s needs is exhausting, y’all. So is laundry, cooking, cleaning and keeping up with my other commitments. I need a maid. Or at least a nanny.

Sunday:

Obligatory over the wing shot from my plane ride

Ground from the plane

Yeah, sorry, all I did was fly. Unless you want to see a picture of the giant cheeseburger I scarfed down.

Monday:

Real life can't stop me from rocking the "Internets! Hell yea!" tattoo

Little Evan's newest trick is lining stuff up

I missed this face like WHOA

Tuesday:

GET YOUR FILTHY FALL CANDY OFF MY GROCERY STORE SHELVES. (Also, mmmm...mallow pumpkins)

A 5 minute grocery store trip with two kids is actually a 45 minute grocery store trip

Heirloom tomatoes from the CSA. Tomorrow they're going into pasta with goat cheese and herb butter. And then into my MOUTH.

My dad's job brought him to Connecticut so Little Evan got a suprise bedtime story with Bampa

Wednesday:

I came home with a suitcase full of stuffed animals for Little Evan - and my husband makes them all obsolete with one stupid angry bird.

My children are confused

Yes, please climb on my face.

Thursday:

First time I made it to Stroller Strides all week...and instead of doing sit ups I lay on the ground taking pictures. Am Lazy.

Don't even THINK about making me share this plum.

In bed, lights out, before 10. It felt FANTASTIC.

 Friday:

New favorite game: Caroline rides the bouncy seat like a surfboard while Little Evan bounces it. They made it up/play it all on their own. These children will be the death of me.

Nursing in public. I am SCANDALOUS.

True fact: of all the free stuff I got at BlogHer, one of my favorites was the rosemary Wasa flatbreads. I'm a weirdo. So I bought more.

Things she ate for dinner and are on her face: grapes, corn tortillas, fruit leather, bbq chicken pizza, fig newton. ALL OF THOSE.

Saturday:

Party dresses: they're not JUST for parties!

And then mama bought THIS MUCH stuff at Target!

Cheating on Caroline with my friend Amanda's 7 week old baby. SO TINY.

And now I am exhausted so I’m going to try to sneak in a nap.

My Week(40) in iPhone Photos

Monday, August 8th, 2011

My weekly recap of camera photos is officially full term, so even if this is two days late I can’t possibly skip it. Rest assured there are a minimum of BlogHer pictures – those get their own post. Posts. Postsssssssssss.

Sunday:

Reading blogs & watching Shark Week is officially the BEST way to spend a Sunday

Pulling up. EVEN WORSE than the crawling. I swear I'm going to staple her to the ground.

Weight Watchers approved dinner: dijon pork chops. SUPER delicious.

Monday:

I felt guilty I was leaving so I bought them toys. Caroline realizes theres a future in this.

Packing. I brought way too many shoes. The sparkly notebook, however, was a wise choice.

Serious toddler is serious.

Tuesday:

Caroline's fan club at Stroller Strides. I am RUINING this child.

Not yet fried green tomatoes at the CSA.

Disguisting green slime on my feet during my "spa" pedicure. Should have been called a spew pedicure. BA-DUM-CHING.

Wednesday:

Sometimes your sister is so cute you can't stop yourself from hugging her

This is the stupidest playground equipment ever. The kids get to sit on a platform and the parents have to work to turn the super-stiff crank so they move. Playground! Ur doin it rong!

Shoeless Hobo Baby: The Sequel

Thursday:

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go (with plenty of colored fine-tip Sharpies for some unknown reason)

Leeeeeavin' on a jet plane! You're welcome for the earworm BTW.

Taken out the window of a taxi driven by a guy with a death wish going 65 down a highway full of STOPPED TRAFFIC. I win at iPhone photograhy.

Friday:

Things you don't see in Connecticut: tropical streams running through the pool area of a bayfront hotel

View from my hotel room. I told E I think the next time he gets orders we should ask for San Diego. (Five years from now, FYI)

Fire pit, wine, wrappers from two super delicious red velvet cupcakes I shoved into my face hole. This sums up most of BlogHer.

Saturday:

Bob Harper. He was extremely good looking and charming. And also kicked my ass.

Queen Bee Market. It is also going to get an entire post. SO CUTE.

Delicious dinner organize by my friend Eileen. It was so great to sit and chat and drink cocktails at a table with NO HIGHCHAIRS. I ate my weight in fresh ahi tuna.

After an extremely long travel day yesterday I am so happy to be home, although adjusting to normal life is surprisingly hard. Why has no one told me they like my hair? What do you mean my boob tattoo that says “Internets! Hell yea!” is inappropriate for the grocery store? Where are my free Twizzlers? Ah well, back to mom life I go. Until next year. NYC in 2012 Baby!

CSA Update: Summer Bounty

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

My CSA membership has been paying out big time for the last few weeks. I snarfed down all the early season carrots and snap peas and lettuce without even bothering to take pictures or find recipes, because what can you possibly do to a fresh-picked snap pea to make it BETTER? (Hint: NOTHING. Except for shoving it into your face hole.)

Toddler photobombing my picture of last week's haul to get a cherry tomato

All my hopes for teaching the toddler about fresh and local food have come absolutely true. He asks to go to the farm all the time, loves seeing the plants and checking out the changes each week and will eat things I NEVER thought would pass his lips (peas! beans! lettuce!) if he gets them fresh.

But I haven’t been wasting all my veggies on the toddler. They’ve been a total life-saver on my diet plan, since I can eat as many vegetables as I want – and they are SO MUCH EASIER to eat when you know they’re fresh and tasty and they’re sitting on my kitchen counter.

Here’s what I got on Tuesday:

1. Arugula
2. Cabbage
3. Summer Savory
4. Amethyst basil plant
5. Cinnamon basil
6. Jalapeno
7. Heirloom tomato
8. Garlic
9. Eggplant
10. Green pepper
11. Cucumber
12. Fingerling potatoes
13. Red poatoes
14. Hot peppers
15. Cherry tomatoes
16. Pole beans

Holy cow. How do I even START to eat all of that goodness?

Pinterest helps, of course. I used some of the fingerling potatoes for Salt & Vinegar Fingerlings, although I wussed out on the full 2 cups of vinegar and I shouldn’t have – they weren’t tart enough for me. And I’m going to make Spicy Green Beans with my pole beans tomorrow, although mine will be a lot less fancy than that recipe (grapeseed oil? pshaw). I think we’ll have Parmesan Roasted Potatoes this weekend with the red of my red potatoes to satisfy my french fry craving.

And here are my super easy, spur of the moment, straight out of my brain recipes:

Eggplant Bruchetta

Eggplant sliced thin and broiled for about 4 minutes on each side, then topped with chopped basil, garlic and tomatoes and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. 100% CSA. And it was ZERO points on my Weight Watchers plan.

Chicken quesadillas with homemade salsa

Chicken, green peppers and onions sauteed with garlic salt and cumin, then I used my handy-dandy quesadilla maker and some Mexican cheese blend to make it melty. The salsa is the heirloom tomato, tons of garlic, one of the hot peppers, cilantro and lime juice.

Potato rosemary pizza

Pillsbury pizza crust baked for 5 minutes, then topped with mozzarella, chopped rosemary, chopped garlic and all three kinds of potatoes I got from the CSA sliced as thin as possible. Sprinkle with salt and bake for about 20 minutes more. Next time I might roast the potato slices for a few minutes before putting them on the pizza so they’re crispier, but even my husband ate it and agreed it was good. And so pretty!

We have summer squash and zucchini and more eggplant (my new FAVORITE) and tons more tomatoes coming in the next few weeks, so let me know if you have any favorite recipes. Oh, and I need a suggestion for that head of cabbage. It’s so beautiful I hate to turn it into coleslaw but I don’t know what else to do with cabbage.

My Week(38) in iPhone Photos

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

Wow, internets, I’ve been ignoring you like crazy. But when it’s 104 degrees for a zillion days in a row, we’re too busy trying to keep cool and hiding in our air conditioned bedroom to do anything blog-worthy. I barely even took enough pictures to do my weekly post, but after THIRTY EIGHT weeks I’m not gonna miss one now!

Sunday:

My super glamorous life: reading books and pumping breastmilk

I let the cats out of the basement but it was too hot so they sulked around for an hour before going back down

Monday:

Colored ice cubes at playgroup

Chubby leg nap

E is still taking a photography class, so he takes a lot of random pictures

Tuesday:

Getting ready for our monthday photoshoot

Official spray bottle holder at Stroller Strides

Veggies at our CSA pickup

Wednesday:

Getting ready for a day full of...nothing

This game is called "bebeh drive boat" and it is Little Evan's FAVORITE

Getting my craft on with beads and ribbon

Big girl can stand all by herself

Thursday:

North Lake, on the SubBase. It was PERFECT for the kids - Evan loved it.

Caroline loved the sand. Especially eating it.

So, I bought this. And I did it. It is...not so good. I'm hoping it fades.

Friday:

What, don't you sleep with a tiny light saber?

Poor choices

I went to Hot Topic. I felt really, really old and uncool.

Whoever did this to the toys at the craft store is full of win.

Star Trek on the iPad, knitting myself a summer shawl. I am the world's most confused dork.

Saturday:

I got free deoderant from the internet.

Day on the boat included a trip to the secret marina in Gales Ferry

The marble game! We will teach you to play, but E will yell at you for doing it wrong.

We already had an adventure today involving sunflowers, a hayride and ice cream, and tomorrow E took the day off for a SUPER fun family trip. Tons of pictures coming soon, but right now I need a nap. Summer is exhausting!
