My Week(125) in iPhone Photos

I’ve basically given up on parenting until the weather gets better, so the fact that I took ANY pictures this week that aren’t just of us staring at the television is impressive. We’re supposed to get more snow at the beginning of next week but it might be 50 on Friday, at which point I will start wearing shorts and flip flops.

Sunday:

Private bowling alley is awesome

sunday2

Why am I always tempted to steal the bowling shoes?

Bowling wears out toddlers

Monday:

Hot dogs for breakfast. Not worth an argument.

monday2

Bathtime

monday3

Editing photos from the bowling party – turns out my camera does NOT know what to do under a blacklight. It pretty much totally freaked out. Thank goodness I shoot RAW and could fix them!

That looks safe.

Super excited by an emergency bathroom/Powerball ticket stop at a gas station

This weekend starts a few really busy weeks in our future. It will be mid-April before any of us get a day to relax again, but it’s all FUN stuff so I’m looking forward to most of it. The highlights are a fancy brunch at a fancy restaurant for Easter, Evan’s birthday party and a fancy dress ball I’m being forced (FORCED I TELL YOU!) to attend with E.  I’m hoping to get back to regular family/life/everyday blogging too, but it’s hard when I’m trying to stay on top of  family life every day. See what I did there?

You need a UV filter to photograph in black light. They are also awesome for really sunny days. It will keep colors true, and not “white-out” or over expose. They go on your lens, and are not expensive. The other thing to do is open your aperture as wide as you lens will let you ( 2.4 – 5.6), and set your ISO to about 800. Or you should have a setting on your camera that is called “aperture priority (TV)” and it will adjust the aperture every exposure based on the amount of light available. If you use TV push your ISO to 1600, and shoot at 1/60 or 1/80. (That was long, sorry. I kinda like camera stuff.)

I keep meaning to order UV filters and forgetting. I should add them to my Amazon cart right now. I had my ISO bumped super high since I was trying to keep my f-stop around 4 AND keep the shutter speed as fast as possible to capture children and movement. The real problem was since I was shooting in RAW the picture that shows up on the back of my camera was WRONG. It’s the camera’s JPEG version the photo, so although they looked good and I figured I could just quickly tweak them in Lightroom when I resized the real RAW version with all the info was totally different. I never realized how different those to photo versions were until the blacklight. I created a preset to fix the blown highlights and get the white balance closer to real life (since I still wanted them to look like they were taken with a blacklight) so it didn’t take me too long to fix them!

That glow-y bowling looks awesome – I’ve never seen ramps to roll the ball down like that before! Also, the picture of Caroline just peeking over the edge of the tub is ridiculously adorable.
