My Week(47) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

My ennui from Tuesday lasted all week, which means I’ve got a boring week of photos today. I didn’t FEEL like I wasn’t really doing anything but based on my pictures (or lack thereof) I gave in to my desires to stay home a lot more than I thought. But I spent one bazillion dollars at the craft store on Friday and have been cutting and gluing and knitting and it seems to be improving my mood a little bit. It also means the children and I are covered in gold glitter that refuses to come off. SPARKLY!

Sunday:

Admiring herself in a pocket mirror. She's so vain.

Radishes in our stir fry - tasty AND pretty!

Monday:

It took less than a month for my gorgeous Kate Spade to turn into a diaper bag. Oh motherhood.

Eating - er, DRAWING - with chalk at playgroup.

More cooking - roasted veggies & balsamic glazed onions

Tuesday:

YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY. GO SOUTH.

Sippy cups, coffee, vintage knitting patterns, dinosaurs - pretty much my entire life on one table

Growing mushrooms is cool, as long as you don't think too carefully about what is probably in those sacks

Wednesday:

My kids in a nutshell - Caroline: "Look at me, I'm so cute!" Evan: "Oooo something shiny!!!"

SLOW YOUR ROLL, BJ'S. It's not even HALLOWEEN yet.

Accusing face. I deserved it, she got a shot AND a finger prick.

Thursday:

Stroller Strides. I suspect the kids think we're all insane.

Wrestling. I think Caroline won.

Skeptical baby is skeptical

Friday:

There's now a "make your own cloth diaper" section at my craft store.

GLITTER.

New yarn for new projects. Luckily there was room in my knitting bag, which is already 75% full of old projects I haven't finished.

Saturday:

Can you guess what Caroline is going to be for Halloween?

Practicing his circles

Someone made a HUGE MESS during dinner and ended up naked.

I’ve decided I get the rest of the weekend to continue being lazy (especially tomorrow, which is my day to sleep in, which means I am not even going to THINK about getting out of bed until 10 am) and then I’m going to snap out of it. I’ve got a whole Pinterest board full of Halloween craft ideas, Caroline’s costume to finish, a What’s for Dinner post to write and lots of fall pictures to take. Unless it keeps raining. Rain validates all laziness.

My Week(43) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

It’s amazing how even a really challenging week looks so nice in iPhone photos. Do not be fooled by these posts.

Sunday:

Before I had kids, I never thought going to the grocery store alone would be considered a good time.

This is what went into that galette I made

Daddy's idea of playing with the baby

Monday:

Playground after Stroller Strides

LARGE iced Dunkin' Dark with skim milk and 3 Splenda

I think we need a bigger toy box. Or FEWER TOYS.

Tuesday:

Hi hi hi hi hi hi! Watcha doin????

Battle wounds from an asphalt vs. face fight. Poor baby.

He looks pretty happy for someone getting Taco Bell for dinner.

Wednesday:

I may have overreacted to it being just SLIGHTLY chilly that morning

Flowers & stripes

I ended up buying this outfit, mostly because the kids started SCREAMING and I felt guilty about making such a spectacle and leaving empty handed.

E had hockey so I had my own private knit night at home instead of going to the shop. Much less fun.

Thursday:

Thank God for baby gates. HAHA YOU CAN'T TOUCH ME NOW.

Lockup has turned her into a hardened criminal. Obviously.

Fiona Baby Sundress (pattern from Ravely)

Friday:

Ready to go to Stroller Strides

Presents in the mail. People like me!

Nursing the baby now comes with a risk of being kicked in the face

Bread aisle at Target. I guess people are taking this hurricane thing seriously.

Saturday:

Laughing cow wedges on toast

Back off woman, I'm just trying to watch WonderPets!

Concerned dog looks concerned, but our fronch porch has been cleared and we're ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at us.

So there isn’t much going on this weekend, besides waiting to see if Irene hits us. We’re directly in the path but our house is in an area safe from flooding and they aren’t talking about evacuating for any other reason. I’m a teeny tiny bit worried about our big tree falling down – apparently there used to be a matching tree on the other side of the house. It fell down during the LAST hurricane – but there’s nothing I can do to prevent high winds so I’m trying to use my energy on more important things, like taking a nap and baking cookies. I hope all my East Coast friends stay safe – and the rest of you enjoy the nice weather our hurricane is giving you!

My Week(41) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Despite only being actually hung over for about 20 minutes on Saturday (Bob Harper’s workout sweat the booze right out of me) I’ve been BlogHer hung over ALL WEEK. Having to care for other people’s needs is exhausting, y’all. So is laundry, cooking, cleaning and keeping up with my other commitments. I need a maid. Or at least a nanny.

Sunday:

Obligatory over the wing shot from my plane ride

Ground from the plane

Yeah, sorry, all I did was fly. Unless you want to see a picture of the giant cheeseburger I scarfed down.

Monday:

Real life can't stop me from rocking the "Internets! Hell yea!" tattoo

Little Evan's newest trick is lining stuff up

I missed this face like WHOA

Tuesday:

GET YOUR FILTHY FALL CANDY OFF MY GROCERY STORE SHELVES. (Also, mmmm...mallow pumpkins)

A 5 minute grocery store trip with two kids is actually a 45 minute grocery store trip

Heirloom tomatoes from the CSA. Tomorrow they're going into pasta with goat cheese and herb butter. And then into my MOUTH.

My dad's job brought him to Connecticut so Little Evan got a suprise bedtime story with Bampa

Wednesday:

I came home with a suitcase full of stuffed animals for Little Evan - and my husband makes them all obsolete with one stupid angry bird.

My children are confused

Yes, please climb on my face.

Thursday:

First time I made it to Stroller Strides all week...and instead of doing sit ups I lay on the ground taking pictures. Am Lazy.

Don't even THINK about making me share this plum.

In bed, lights out, before 10. It felt FANTASTIC.

 Friday:

New favorite game: Caroline rides the bouncy seat like a surfboard while Little Evan bounces it. They made it up/play it all on their own. These children will be the death of me.

Nursing in public. I am SCANDALOUS.

True fact: of all the free stuff I got at BlogHer, one of my favorites was the rosemary Wasa flatbreads. I'm a weirdo. So I bought more.

Things she ate for dinner and are on her face: grapes, corn tortillas, fruit leather, bbq chicken pizza, fig newton. ALL OF THOSE.

Saturday:

Party dresses: they're not JUST for parties!

And then mama bought THIS MUCH stuff at Target!

Cheating on Caroline with my friend Amanda's 7 week old baby. SO TINY.

And now I am exhausted so I’m going to try to sneak in a nap.

Chubby arm

Grocery shopping. My what a lot of carbs you have.

Monday:

No YOU'RE wearing mismatched pajamas!

Kisses from a friend at Stroller Strides

Chillin' in the only room with A/C and a tv - our super messy bedroom

Tuesday:

I made a mess! Look how happy I am!

My official water sprayer at Stroller Strides

Temp at 9 am. Blerg.

Sibiling bath time is now everyone's favorite part of the day - they love the tub and I love that it means it's almost BEDTIME.

Wednesday:

I started my first new knitting project in months. Very excited.

"I am just going to warn you now, I am thinking about standing up. Just so you know."

DADDY HORSE GO!

 Thursday:

Mom mom mom mom mom mom are you watching mom?

TA DA!

Maybe I should have named her Clementine

Friday:

Visiting the knitting shop means knitting for me, dancing with adorable little girls for Little Evan

This is what the clock said when I woke up from MY nap. Yay naps.

We tried out the video chat on Google+ (I love it! We should do it!)

This is literally the first time she has ever been in the crib. Ever. I had to empty all the junk out.

Saturday:

Homemade teething biscuits. They were not crunchy, but good for baby nomming.

I have no idea what's going on here.

Target dressing room self portrait. I bought it.

Aw, look at my adorable pale family.

It was one of those weeks that FELT super busy but we really didn’t do much. The feeling-like-crap for a few days didn’t help – neither did the heat – but the weekend so far as been good. I’ve got another book review to write (as soon as I finish the book)(which is due tonight)(eeek) and some BlogHer conference freaking out to do and dinner on the patio to plan and children to snuggle, so I’ll be back but probably not until Tuesday. Hope your weekend was fantastic!

Watching It

Friday, July 15th, 2011

My ankle is doing much better, thanks for asking, but it was probably a mistake to go to Stroller Strides on Monday and Tuesday. I thought if I just took it easy I’d be OK but by the time I woke up Wednesday I was popping Motrin like candy and had to put my ace bandage back on, so I think I’m going to give it a few more days before I try again. Or maybe I’m just projecting onto my ankle because my thighs hurt SO MUCH after all the squats and lunges I can barely carry the baby upstairs. My ass was kicked. And then I got a weird fever/body aches that felt like the start of another kidney infection (NOOOOO!) so I’ve been doing as little as possible all week. Again.

Not exercising is extremely frustrating right now because I’m on such a roll with Weight Watchers. I lost 3.8 pounds in the first week and 2.2 in the second week…which means I’ve lost 6 pounds in only 2 weeks. I’m hooked. I had this idea in my head that it was a super old fashioned, calorie counting type plan and I wasn’t going to like it and it wasn’t going to work no matter how good Jennifer Hudson looks in the ads. I mean, I don’t need to pay monthly dues just to have someone tell me Big Macs are bad for me. I’m not an IDIOT, I just lack self control and eat my feelings and love to sit down with a bag of candy and shove the whole thing in my face. THERE IS A REASON I AM OVERWEIGHT.

But it’s not like that at all. It’s all high-techy, with tracking online and calculators to figure out how many points are in the recipes I already make and I can stuff myself with as many fruits and veggies as I want and still have pasta for dinner AND an ice cream bar for dessert. (It helps that I get a special allowance for nursing. I might nurse forever, just so I can eat more.) After emptying my fridge the first week and making lots of healthy choices easily available, I think this is the kind of diet I can STICK WITH and maybe finally fit into some of those clothes I’ve been hanging on to for the past 5 years.

The best part is that if I DO want to shove a whole bag of candy in my mouth, I’m not breaking any rules. I can do it. I just have to be accountable for that candy and make better choices the rest of the week so it had better be a Real Chocolate Emergency. Or a Wine Emergency. Or a Chocolate and Wine Emergency. I can totally keep those down to only once or twice a month if it means I fit in my high school sundresses.
