Steppin’ Out {5} at the Seaport

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

We suffer from a chronic case of good intentions but no follow through around here. So many plans, so little actually going places and doing things. But one of the nice things about having memberships at Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium is we can go whenever and stay for however long we want. Baby having a fit? Time to go! Weather gets bad? We’ll come back some other day! Crap-ton of people who don’t understand how to not stand around yapping in the middle of the walkway and make me want to scrape out my own eyeballs with an ice pick? The walkway will still be there on a weekday! I can keep my eyes! Which is good, because they are usefully to me!

So on Saturday we celebrated yet another day of nice weather by taking Little Evan to see the boats. BOAT BOAT BOAT BOAT BOAT BOAT. The Seaport is a really nice place – especially on days like yesterday when it was practically deserted – but it is definitely a TWO PARENT ACTIVITY. There’s nothing like hundreds and hundreds of feet of open, non-guard-railed waterfront with a 6 or 7 foot drop into the river to keep you on your toes, especially with a toddler who wants to be AS CLOSE TO THE BOATS as possible.

You have seen boats advertised on television and on the Internet, but can’t find a legitimate platform to search for a boat ?  Try searching at Zeboats it features lots of boats currently for sale on the market in your area. Good tip, do  some research before purchasing a boat. You can find out everything you need to know by visiting their website.. They are always open to questions and will be glad to discuss the details of their product with you. So if you are ready to buy a boat, go ahead and check it out.

Including the boats that do not actually belong to the Seaport but are just docked there by people who own giant boats and probably wouldn’t appreciate a 2 year old showing up in their cabins shouting “HAI! HAI! BOAT! MAMA! DADA!” in their faces. So it takes both E and myself to watch him and still remain an appropriately responsible distance from the stroller so no one reports us for child abandonment.

And hey, we were in public! So everyone wore clothes.

On Little Evan:

Shirt – Gymboree, last season
Pants – Gymboree, this season
Sandals – Old Navy

On Mama:

Shirt – Goodwill, tag says ELLE
Jeans – Target
Sweater – Gap, purchased on clearance in 1998
Earrings – Gift from my sister, purchased in Costa Rica
Giant sticker on my boob – Member entrance sticker for the Seaport. Classy.

Shoes – Target, 50% off! I’ve been eying these for MONTHS, trying to decide if they were worth $20 or if I should wait for them to go on sale, as all Target shoes do. I waited. Now I’m just sorry I didn’t buy them in the other colors.

Also, if you look closely you can see my totally gross toenail on my left foot. Little Evan threw a bottle of carpet cleaner at me in the store and it landed right on my nail. It bled for hours and now it’s all blue and gray and black and it’s totally going to fall off. AREN’T YOU GLAD I POINTED THAT OUT TO YOU?

On Caroline:

Romper – Gift, tag says Hartstrings
Leggings – BabyLegs
Socks – Who the hell knows, hand-me-downs

More pictures from our fun day:

These swans are building a nest right on the main waterfront. They’re going to be really sorry when the seaport gets busy in a few weeks. But it was super cool to watch!

Little Evan steering the Amistad. Yeah, the one from the movie.

Hanging toddlers over the edge of giant scaffolding! Good times!!

I think Caroline might be interested in starting solids sooner rather than later. And for the record, NOT PEPSI. Lemonade.

Why yes, I DID dress my baby in a nautical themed outfit for the Seaport. Also, the amber teething necklace is once again working like a CHAMP, as evidenced by the happy, silly baby.

Dreaming of the day he can finally escape his horrible, mean parents for a life at sea.

My Week(26) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

Sunday:

We enjoyed the nice weather (p.s. I do not live here)

And walked down the block to Easter services

Caroline enjoyed her Easter dress

And I enjoyed at least 7 of these scones

Monday:

Well, that's a new way to go down the slide

First swing! She looks underwhelmed.

Rushed the stupid dog to the vet because he ran in the street & got hit by a car. He's so totally fine the vet thought I was imagining things.

Tuesday:

Want to make a 2 year old go somewhere? Tell him there are kitties. KITTY! KIIIIIIIITTYYYYYYY!!!

Someone is excited about the spring weather.

60% off baby! I should have bought the whole box.

Wednesday:

Well, if you're that tired try sleeping later than 5:30. OKAY BABY?

Big boy reading in his big boy bed when I came to get him in the morning

The giant cart came in handy when we found the half price bunny. I put it (and the pink version) in a box for next Easter. AM GENIUS.

It's about time he earned his keep around here. I pay him in cereal.

WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT SLEEPING IN?!?

Thursday:

Well, yes, that's sleeping. Technically.

OK, more sleeping. Except I took this at Stroller Strides so I was NOT sleeping.

Naked baby time while Mama stuffed diapers for the switch to cloth

Friday:

Yes, I watched the royal wedding but only because THE BABY wanted to get up. It's not like I set my alarm or something.

OK, so I set my alarm. But how could I miss THIS?!

New best toddler distraction ever: buckets & water.

Maybe I shouldn't whine so much about the sleeping.

Saturday:

CEREAL. MOOOOOORE!!! MORE CEREAAAAAAAL!!!!

I had a super healthy breakfast omlet so I wouldn't feel bad about the fried seafood at lunch. It worked.

Mystic Seaport. In the words of the toddler: BOAT BOAT BOAT BOAT BOAT!

Days like this I am so happy we live in New England.

And now it’s Saturday afternoon and we’re home with 2 napping babies and plans to visit the hardware store (and hopefully I can talk E into some Chili’s for dinner). If we get REALLY fancy we might go dig up some rocks in the back yard. MY LIFE IS SO GLAMOROUS. And you know what? I totally think it’s awesome.

Did you take any camera phone photos this week? Link up with one or lots using the linky below and grab the code (so it shows on your blog too!) over at Amy’s . It’s really fun!

Re-Enlistment Day

Friday, October 15th, 2010

So this morning, we all put on our Sunday best and went down to the Navy base, where E solemnly swore “that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.”

So help him God.

E gets to spend the next 5 years at the beck and call of the US Government and I got a nice certificate that thanked me for my service. Little Evan got one too.

To celebrate we went down to Mystic.

Splashed in some puddles

Got a family picture with E in uniform

We went to buy my dream stroller (UppaBaby, baby!) but the people at the store were…less than knowledgeable. I felt sort of like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman – I am in your store, trying to spend obscene amounts of money with very little effort on your part, and yet you can’t be bothered to help? BIG MISTAKE. HUGE.

It was really confusing. We looked totally respectable and not at all hooker-ish. I’m visibly pregnant & carrying a toddler, so I’m obviously not lost. The lady BOTH sales women were helping was buying $30 worth of dresses. No one can stop for a second to help me with a $800 stroller? (Does that sound SUPER bitchy and entitled? Yeah, probably.)

Finally, they called the owner who assured me I could have my stroller, on sale, with all the parts by Sunday.

So boo and yah!

Since E is shockingly unexcited by dropping wads of cash on a stroller (geez, why not dude?), we went down to Clyde’s Cider Mill to get him a little present of his own.

Cinnamon sugar donuts and a bottle of hard cider. There are no pictures because we inhaled the donuts too fast and I told E he couldn’t drink the cider until after noon. We’re classy like that.

And now we’re spending the rest of the day doing errands and being lazy while the weather decides if it’s going to be sunny and warmish or rainy, windy and cold. Either way, it’s been a good day already.

Happy Re-Enlistment E! Your family & your country appreciates everything you do for us!

Duck, duck

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

What, you didn't see that one coming?

While my husband and father did demolition in the basement, rewired the family room, fixed our plumbing problems, added gutters to the house, and hauled literal tons of crap to the dump (both cat and human ACTUAL CRAP as well as a zillion pounds of junk, trash and a treadmill I swore I would use every single day if only I could have one please pretty pretty please please), my mother and I took the baby down to Mystic. I know, my life is so hard. Let me tell you though, with the way the baby’s been acting recently I would rather be knee deep in poop than get smacked in the face one more time.

Luckily, my mom was with me and she has the patience of a saint. Or of a grandma. Same thing, really.

Also luckily, Baby Evan likes ducks so a 99 cent bag of duck feed and a few friendly quack quacks earned me 30 minutes of scream-free time.

Yes, this is my child running shoeless through Ye Olde Mysticke Villageeeeeee

World's most patient ducks. I feel like I owe them all writen appologies.

He really liked calling them "duhs! duhs!" and he tried to say "qwah!!" a couple times. Of course maybe he was saying "Dog" and "What is wrong with you woman, don't you see how dirty this ground is?"

My child looks even more hobo-like next to his MorMor (Swedish for grandma) since she always looks so classy. For the record it was 90 degrees that day so I thought his outfit was appropriate.

It’s times like these I am really really sad we live so far away from our family.
