I survived party week! Now I have 10 days to clean up before Santa comes, takes one look at this disaster, and leaves with our gifts because I’m disgusting. I wouldn’t blame him.

Besides the party and beating several levels of Candy Crush, I did NOTHING useful this weekend. It’s a good thing both kids love Caroline’s presents because it’s buying me a few days of recovery/time to get my photos together so I can share. Although Her Highness might be so spoiled at this point I never actually get a day off again. BRB, writing hate mail to the Navy.

Welcome to August in New England, where the weather cools down juuuuust enough to make life bearable, the days are still super long, and the kids can SENSE that I’m shipping them off to school soon so they start demanding the playground every day.

E’s hours are still killing him, but we managed to fit in some family time today, which was super fun. He even put up a curtain rod we’ve been meaning to put up for seven years. Maybe in another seven years we’ll fix the shower door that’s been broken since we moved in! Â No, probably not. That clothes pin keeps it closed pretty well.

Our week was busy, except for when it wasn’t because of the pouring rain and flash floods. But mostly busy.
Sunday:
I mean, I only have three doll houses, why not buy another one? (I did not)

I appreciate how the trees on the point hide most of the nuclear power plant. More scenic.
Monday:
I’ve never actually seen the state capitol before

Sometimes I take pictures of stuff I want to remember to keep on my phone, but then I forgot to leave them on my phone.
Tuesday:
The local tax office is located in part of an old TB hospital.

The urgency to do as many things and have as much fun as possible before summer is over has hit. I was actually grateful for a rainy miserable day to stay home and relax (even though we ended up having friends over and totally wearing out my kids). July is almost over and August is going to FLY by and then Evan starts 5 days a week morning pre-k, which I am both totally ready and not at all ready for. They grow up so fast, etc etc, but I’m looking forward to a new stage where I have a lot more time to focus on things I love (especially photography) instead of just being Mommy.

Two of the days this week were SO LAZY I barely took 3 pictures all day. Coming back to real life is hard.
Sunday:
It rained on our last day at the lake house, but luckily Mormor and Bumpa have cable.

Who knew a weekend at a kid’s birthday party could be a vacation?
I know I said LAST week that we were just going to relax at home and take it easy for a while…but then I realized Summer is REALLY SHORT and we are already running out of time to do all the things. We’ll be all over New England for the next week and the kids start summer school/camp the week after, so the frantic pace continues. It’s literally giving me stomach pains thinking about how little time we have left before it gets dark and cold again, so I’m fitting as much fun into these warm days as possible.
