1 minute 31 seconds of toddler fun

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

This video contains several things I’ve been trying to capture on camera for the last couple of weeks:

1. The palms-up “I dunno!” shrug, accompanied by the face. I think I’ve shrugged like that maybe twice in my life, but obviously one of those times was in front of Baby Evan.
2. That “Ey-ee?” noise he makes when he pulls his arm back to throw something. I was at playgroup two weeks ago and complained that Baby Evan LOVED to throw things but had a hard time distinguishing appropriate stuff from hard, pointy things. One of the moms said “Why don’t you get him to ask “Ready?” before he throws?” AND THEN HE DID. Because she mentioned it once within his earshot. It doesn’t really help though, since he just ask “Ey-ee?” before throwing the hard, pointy things. But at least you have fair warning. It is often followed by “Oh!” (throw!) but not always.
3. The “Ooooooo-ho-oo-oo-oo” that goes with the “Oh” face from the weekend’s post. He does it all the time and I always crack up.

(As usually, please ignore the mess and the dog and my husband’s gym shorts yadda yadda yadda. Whatevs, this is what my life looks like. I’m over it.)

(Also, free housekeeping tip of the day: Socks pick up a lot of dog hair and dirt and are easily washable.)

Funny in training

So the other day I was sitting on the couch when something started to stink. The obvious answer to the “who crapped their pants?” question around here is Baby Evan, so I demanded he come over and let me stick my face in his butt immediately. I said, mostly to myself, “How do you smell buddy?”

And this was my answer.

and P.S. The thing he has in his hand at the end is a baby wipe, with which he is wiping things. Because the clean-up game is his new favorite.

You Could Be a Farmer in Those Clothes

Ten points to the first person to identify the movie quote!

We finally got the warm, sunny weather I was so tired of hearing about from my Mid-Western friends so now I’ll bore you by talking about it to. Spring in Connecticut doesn’t so much bloom as EXPLODE. One day there are a few crocuses in the garden and tiny buds on all the trees and then WHAM flowers and leaves everywhere. It’s fantastic. I have to physically restrain myself from running out to my local garden center and spending hundreds of dollars on plants and seedlings I have no idea how to grow. My thumb is best described as a light yellow – I don’t kill every plant I come in contact with but only the strong survive.

Baby Evan and I took advantage of the weather yesterday by lounging on our porch all afternoon, doing out best redneck country folk impressions. I opened up the house, blocked off the stairs and let him have the run of the place.

My mom gave him the overalls for his birthday. Let it be known she did include a shirt at the time.

But Baby Evan and I agree, shirts are for suckers.

Downward Dog

They both watched the neighborhood kids walk home from school with rapt attention. The thought that one day Brutus might be watching out the front door for Baby Evan to get home made me teary.

P.S. One of the comments I get about my blog a lot is “How do you find time to write every day!?” The answer is of course, I neglect my child. Just kidding. But I do neglect a lot of housework, laundry and pretty much all my other interests until I’ve written my post for the day. It is, however, IMENSELY helpful that Baby Evan can be fairly easily entertained, either with toys (to throw on the floor), food (to throw on the floor) or as seen below, my toes.

He Walks!

Check it out Mamas, my baby’s walking at 9 months, 1 week and 6 days!

Don’t be jealous. No really, don’t be. All this means is I never get to sit down ever again.

And so the fart jokes start

The loud noise is coming from my baby. The background noise is his father encouraging it.
