Caroline: 3 Months
Three months in and Caroline is still the happiest, smiley-est, cutest baby ever in the whole history of the world. Obviously I’m a little biased but seriously, she gives newborns everywhere a good name. I should rent her out to people who are scared that having a baby will be super hard. Of course, then their baby will end up being all colicky and refluxy and screamy and they’ll hunt me down and punch me right in my smug face. To which I will just say I paid my dues, suckers, and his name is Baby Evan.
For the record, Toddler Evan is pretty awesome. But Baby Caroline makes me want a dozen more babies.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a 3 months well-baby check so I don’t have real stats for height and weight, but she is definitely big and chubby. We’ve moved up to 6 months sleepers and dresses and I’ve already started a pile of too-small stuff to put away. I’m super excited that spring is almost here so I can start putting her in the dozens and dozens of adorable barely worn hand-me-downs my friends and sister-in-law have given her.
Caroline is now awake for a lot of the day, but will fall asleep if we go anywhere in the car or if we wrap her up and bounce her in the bouncy seat. She sleeps for an amount of time that is technically considered “through the night” by baby-sleep experts but still involves feeding her at midnight and 5 am. Which is fantastic, as long as I get an occasional nap to make up for those couple of lost hours. One of these days we’ll work on moving her to the co-sleeper or the crib – or a new crib, if I can convince E we need one – but for now she’s still sleeping the the swing most of the time. Ok, all the time. No judging unless you’ve lived with a baby who gets up every 90 minutes to nurse for 8 months straight.
Favorite things still include smiling, looking at people, sleeping, and making adorable baby sounds. Dislikes are gas bubbles and having onesies pulled over her head.
And now for the gratuitous picture section. Milestones are below:
2 Month Milestones (from BabyCenter, as usually)
Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
Recognizes your face and scent – Yes, although I’m afraid if I ever start taking regular showers again I might confuse her
Holds head steady – Yes, there is definitely less slamming of her head into my face when I try to hold her on my shoulder
Visually tracks moving objects – Yes, which I find ridiculously adorable
Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
Squeals, gurgles, coos – OMG the noises she makes are the absolute cutest noises ever in the whole world
Blows bubbles – Yes
Recognizes your voice – I think so, she definitely smiles the most when I talk to her
Does mini-pushup – Yes, she’s super strong!
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
Rolls over, from tummy to back – YES! She did it for the first time right on her 3 month birthday. She can also go halfway from her back to tummy but can’t get over her arm
Turns toward loud sounds – Sort of. There are a lot of loud sounds around here. They only bother her about 50% of the time
Can bring hands together, bats at toys – Yes and yes, I’ve started giving her small toys to hold, which doesn’t last very long but she likes to try
Aaaaand one more picture for the hell of it. I was trying to catch her smiling but this is actually more awesome:

I want another baby now! Thank you for that!
She is beautiful and I love those baby blues!
OH goodness!! She is CUTE. She and Leyna sound like twins separated at birth. LL’s still sleeping in her bouncy chair set inside the co-sleeper. I. don’t. care. The girl SLEEPS. She is such a dream. I finally understand why people think newborns and so sweet and this time of their life is just so precious. Because with Kendall, I was just NOT getting that. Colic is traumatizing, yo. So glad we both got a break this time.
Dear. So many typos above. Hope you understand my made of language.
In the montage at the bottom, she looks just like Evan in the top right picture! Her bish plz face in the bottom right is obviously my favorite, but the center one is a close second. So precious!
OMG, Suzanne. She is so, so delicious.
You know I love you, but I may need to stop reading your blog because it makes me want to try for a girl RIGHT NOW, and that just can’t happen. Just kidding :) (on the not reading part- NOT on the not having another baby now part) And what swing do you have? O hates ours.
Oh my uterus. Oh my ovaries. Oh my my my.
Oh my, those thighs! Baby chub makes me jealous.
Awwww!!!! She is so beautiful!!! As are your pictures my friend! :)
Lucky! Of course, when the Babby was that age, she was also the easiest most delightful little thing ever, except when it came to nursing issues. But now she’s frequently a screaming terror, so I guess she’s making up for it.
Oh wow, my favorite of those pictures is the last close-up right before the tutus. ADORABLE. Her hair seems to be getting darker..is that my imagination?
Her hair is definitely darker than Evan’s, but still pretty red. Her eyelashes have gotten noticeably darker though so I suspect her whole head might too.
It also looks a lot lighter after she gets a bath, which almost never happens.
Oh damn. She is adorable. & your pictures are fantastic. I wish mine turned out half that good. (ahem.. maybe a photo taking advice post??)
Step 1: Buy expensive camera
Step 2: Read a bunch of photography advice on the internet but learn nothing
Step 3: Shoot in automatic but NEVER with the flash
Step 4: Run all photos through Picasa to lighten them up
Step 5: Promise yourself you’ll actually learn to use your camera some day
She is just gorgeous! The red hair and eyes really make her look like the girly version of little Evan. Ackk! Soooo adorable!
This is going to sound strange, but I look at pictures of a lot of my friends’ babies on the internet and Caroline? Is luminous. The luminescentest. Can you do a match-up of lil E at 3 mos and her?
I will try to find photos for a match-up, but when our external hard-drive crashed we lost a LOT of Evan’s early photos. But I’m sure there are some here on the bloggity blog.
So cute. So, so, SO CUTE.
hello, cuteness ;)
please tell me you’re bringing her to BlogHer?
On second thought. No. Do not bring her. I will end up with a terrible case of the girl baby rabies!
I WANT to bring her, but the idea of 8-11 hours of travel with an 8 month old makes me want to stab my eyes out. Plus she would prevent late nights and possible alcohol consumption. But there is no way I could have left Evan at 8 months so we’ll see.
Who knows, maybe you’ll be knocked up with your own girl bebeh by then, Ms. Movin On Up To A Bigger House.
SO ADORABLE! She is starting to look so much like Evan.
My godh, she is gorgeous. I Love her just burried in the tulle! So cute.
She is SO cute! Love the onesie and the tutu! I am secretly hoping that this pregnancy brings a baby girl so I can do the frilly stuff.
The baby smirk could also be added to her list of skills as evidenced by those 3 month pictures. As a Davis, that skill will definitely come in handy =)
