BlogHer12 Recap In Photos And Bad Poetry

I’ve been staring at this blank page for ten minutes now, wondering how to write a BlogHer12 recap post and I’ve just decided I don’t actually want to. It’s only been a few days since I got home but the posts, tweets, threads and private gossip is coming fast and furious. Who was rude, who got pushed, who snubbed who, what super top secret parties I didn’t get invited to, whether or not bloggers who don’t use all the words count as bloggers at all… It’s amazing how other people’s experience can completely change how I view my own. I don’t want to be responsible for doing that to anyone else. If we met, I thought you were LOVELY. Truly, every single person I met was kind and welcoming, from people I’ve admired for years to brand new faces.  If we didn’t meet, I’m so so sorry and I hope we can get together soon. That’s my entire opinion of the conference besides these photos and captions…done as haiku. Please enjoy.

Wednesday:

BlogHer12 NYC Central Park

Walked to Central Park
With Miranda in the rain
No dead bodies found

BlogHer12 NYC

Went to find some food
The sunset was amazing
But there was no pie

Thursday:

BlogHer12 NYC Thursday

Blographer and more
I met Ree for the third time
She did not know me

Friday:

BlogHer12 NYC Friday

Sessions and Martha
The meat of the whole big thing
With fun for dessert

BlogHer12 NYC Thursday

Bright lights and good friends
Toys and swag and all the things
Can’t even compare

Saturday:

BlogHer12 NYC Saturday

Disney made me cry
Katie and Serenity
Too many highlights to count

My friends may be weird
But that’s why they understand
I treasure them all

Gah. You’re right about how reading other people’s opinions of the conference can color our own. Loved your haikus!

    • bebehblog says:

I let it happen WAY more than I should have last year and I’m trying really hard not to do it again. Every moment I spent with you was wonderful :)

  2. Shari says:

It looks like you had an amazing time!

  3. Krista says:

See? You’re one of those people that makes me sad I didn’t go to BlogHer. I’d love to hug you! Maybe someday. :)

PS. That picture of Miranda and Alena and their sweet babies is fantastic!

  4. Tannis says:

So, I saw that picture of myself and thought, “Look! Someone had the same shirt I did!” Beat, pause, “Oh! That IS me!” Hehe.

  5. Audrey says:

Nicely done, lady. It looks like all the people went this year. Dangit.

  6. Mama Durso says:

Looks like a grand time! Or perhaps your haikus made it seem more grand and sophisticated than it actually was. :) Glad to see/hear you had a lovely time.

  7. Mkp says:

D’awww, yaaaay. When I have my own adorable babies this is going to be even more confusing :)

  8. Sarah says:

Oh no! I hope I wasn’t the all the words lady! I think you’re a beautiful writer. Writers don’t have to have all the words, sometimes few words are supremely powerful. And oh dear, I may obsess about this all day. :(

I loved meeting you. You are as sweet in person as you are on this here piece of the internet. I keep looking for you and Jamie as I walk around my house, because of course you’ll be sitting waiting in my bedroom or living room to talk…

    • bebehblog says:

Not you. Don’t worry! I am thinking of a specific post and it wasn’t yours. PROMISE. I know there’s a divide between types of bloggers, but since I’m not really foody enough for a food conference and I’m not crafty enough for a craft conference and I’m not wordy enough for a writers conference I start feeling left out rather than included. Not by my friends, but by the community.

So I hear that Blogher 2013 is going to be in Chicago. Where I am. Want to make a beach date?

    • bebehblog says:

I had pretty much decided I was taking a year off from BlogHer to do stuff (like, I dunno, have a baby or something) but with Chicago being so close for YOU and Leah and Audrey and my blog designer Sarah…I might have to make it work.

      • Cheney says:

Suzanne – I loved this. Also, let’s discuss this BlogHer in Chicago. I want to find a way to make it work, and if I can by, say, Christmas, I definitely want a flightmate!

  10. Brigid Keely says:

    Babies are over rated, anyway.

  11. raincheckmom says:

    Glad about no dead bodies:-)

  12. Liz says:

I never did make it to the Serenity Suite! We hoofed it from the 34th floor to the 42nd which was rather frightening by how out of shape I am when it comes to stairs, lol (the elevators came like once every 10 minutes and was packed) but the suite was closed at the time.

Great pics! I wish I had made it for froyo but I did have Pinkberry when I was in RI. :)

  13. Adorable haikus – just the right words :0 Fun to meet you very quickly and pose in those sun hats. My dermatologist will be very happy I have one of those.

  14. I really really miss you.

  15. It was nice meeting you briefly at Queerosphere, I had so much fun!!!! Must get to know you better :)

  16. Elaine A. says:

Your poetry and your photos are great. I even see the back of my head in one of them! HA! So good to see you again – looks like you had a wonderful time! Oh and I also took a VERY similar shot out of the window in the Serenity Suite. Great minds and all that…. ;)

    xo

  17. What a lovely recap – glad you kept it positive. And I LOVE the haiku!

  18. Finally. A lovely and funny and heartfelt post that make me *want* to go to BlogHer. You rule. So do haikus. And oh by the way are you pregnant??? Did I miss something?

    • bebehblog says:

AH NO. NO no no, not pregnant. Yet. We’re trying to pick a time for #3 that won’t throw too many future plans off the wagon. I’m thinking Winter 2013.

  19. OT and ET says:

I LOVED THIS! And I love your attitude. Life is what you make of it, so pie, obviously. I hope to see you in Chicago!!!
