Take Us Out To The Ball Game

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

I love minor league baseball. I mean, I love major league baseball too, if I get to actually go to the game in person. But major league baseball games are a) expensive b) far away and c) expensive, so I mostly stick to local minor league games. Our team here in town has changed names at least 3 times since we’ve lived here. First they were the Gators (maybe?), then they were The Defenders (I’m sure about that one), now they are the Connecticut Tigers. I appreciate that they make it family friendly. And cheap. Sitting in the first row right on the 3rd base line make the game much more fun for the big kids.

Poor Linc though. Baseball stadiums aren’t exactly baby-friendly, especially for a baby who just started walking and climbing steps. I felt like I spent most of the game wrestling an angry, wet badger. He did seem to like the baseball food, which kept him partially entertained. I mean, who doesn’t like licking the salt off of soft-baked pretzels?

After the game the kids got to run the bases, which they thought was neat. At the end they each got a coupon for free Ben & Jerry’s, which I think is neat, because I can make them share one scoop while I eat the other. Win win.

Photographic proof of our fun and/or eating:

I can’t believe it’s already the last week of June. I keep having to triple check the calendar to make sure I’m not on the wrong month. I have less than 4 weeks before Lincoln turns one and before his birthday party. I ordered a ton of birthday stuff but have no actual decorating plans beyond “hang up some sparkly stuff” and “maybe cake?” Luckily we have a bunch of family coming, so I will have people to help me cut up one zillion foods into star shapes.

It is freezing cold today but the forecast for the rest of the week looks perfect for lots of #lakelife fun. So far it’s been a pretty good summer.

My Week(240) in iPhone Photos

Sunday, June 7th, 2015

We have just a few more of everything to get through before summer. A few more days of school, a few more soccer practices, a few more end of the year things, a few more days where it’s not 85 degrees. I’m focusing on how busy we are so I don’t think too much about how Linc is going to turn one NEXT MONTH, although now that I’ve started planning his party (theme: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) I am not quite so sad about it. Plus we’ve got this whole babywearing thing so I can keep pretending he is a baby as long as I can keep tying him on my back.

saturday3

I always lose but I still love cribbage

I have some killer allergies right now that are making it impossible to sleep and stay asleep unless I am completely upright. It is not a very comfortable way to sleep. And because Linc still gets up a few times a night, losing ANY of my quality sleep is sucky. I have plans to maybe possibly sort of try to get him to sleep through the night over the summer – preferably before we go on vacation in August – but I might be too lazy to make that happen. Fingers crossed he just starts doing it on his own and I don’t have to make an effort.

Sunday, May 10th, 2015

Happy Mother’s Day, internet! I planted my traditional flower pots and vegetables. The flowers will traditionally look beautiful on the front steps and the vegetables will traditionally die before I ever see a single tomato or eggplant. But I wouldn’t want to stop planting them. It’s tradition.

saturday1

You can’t tell, but he’s crying. Because some of his Cheerios fell on the floor. Because he threw them there.

saturday2

Somehow, she did not fall in.

saturday3

That is not the face of a healthy child. Poor baby had fifths disease (we think) but once you get the rash you’re not contagious anymore.

I really wanted to get a picture of myself with the kids for Mother’s Day, but that didn’t happen. There were too many meltdowns, too many dirty faces, too many things to do, too many kids to wrangle. But while we were making s’mores for dinner both Evan and Caroline said THEY were having the best day ever, so at least the kids enjoyed their day. If that’s not basically what motherhood breaks down to then I don’t know what it.
