Who wants to bang my erasers?

As of now, the baby’s nursery is still being used mostly as a place to rock him to sleep in the dark before we bring him into our bedroom. Once the baby is mobile and needs to be contained for my sanity safety the nursery will end up being our primary place space. I planned for that with lots of book shelves and toy storage but didn’t do much on the interactive/educational side. But since we moved the changing table downstairs* I had a big blank wall to fill. Maybe I just read too much Odeedoh but I couldn’t resist trying out some chalkboard paint.

My art skills are a little lacking but I thought it fit nicely with our Wild Things theme. Plus that’s the magic of chalkboard paint, I can erase it and start over! I outlined the painted are with some molding spray painted green so it looks like a frame.

*Is my child the only one who is no longer interested in letting me use the changing table? His table-top acrobatics are getting out of hand. Am I doomed to change him on the floor for the next three years?

For your sake, I hope you are not doomed to change him on the floor for three years, because I hope he takes to potty-training before then. But I know it varies wildly among kids. Boys, allegedly, take longer than girls.

I like your art. I would draw some boobs, since those are the baby’s favorite things. If he ever sleeps in there, they’ll comfort him at night. Either that or you’ll awake to find he’s ingested chalk.

  2. Your art skills kick my art skills’ ass. Srsly. The fact that I can even tell what you drew is a huge plus. And there’s no stick figure in sight.

I put up a chalkboard in Ev’s room too! But I’ve yet to purchase chalk for it. I put a layer of magnetic primer under it, though, so I could use magnets with it until he’s old enough for chalk. :D And no, you are not alone. I have to grip Ev’s hips and flop him rump down at least a 6 times during a diaper change.

I was going to do the magnetic thing too but couldn’t find it at Home Depot. I still have this big can of chalkboard paint left and I keep looking at surfaces in my house going “Hmmm…maybe I should paint that too?” I think I’ll get some Ikea tables to keep me from chalkboarding the kitchen counters.

Yep! That’s why we thought that changing tables were useless and that we needed that diaper caddy with the changing pad. Turns out I was wrong. It’s been wonderfully while it lasts!

I love it! When we do Mad’s big girl room before kindergarten I want to get some of the stick on chalk board shapes.
