MY Hair Smells Like Apples But YOU Can Win A $50 Gift Card!

Despite my hair not being cut or colored professionally in the last zillion years, I have been enjoying my calm, flake-free scalp thanks to the shampoo and conditioner Head and Shoulders sent me to review back in the fall.

I’m really enjoying it, especially now, in this terrible below-freezing weather. It’s easy to resist the urge to scratch my head like a monkey in public when it doesn’t itch in the first place. And not worrying about flakes on my extremely glamorous winter uniform of black cardigan over nursing tank is a definitely plus.

Sadly my bottles were getting mighty empty (I suspect my husband has been enjoying a healthy, flake-free scalp from their HydraZinc formula as well,) so when BlogHer asked if I wanted to try a NEW Head & Shoulders shampoo and conditioner combo I jumped at the chance. Especially when I heard it was shampoo and conditioner with a fresh, naturally inspired green apple fragrance.

Personally, I would like if EVERYTHING in life came in a fresh, naturally inspired green apple fragrance. It’s clean and tangy and comforting, and just knowing my hair smells like apples makes me want to toss my hair around like a model.

Toss sniff toss sniff sniff toss.

I’ve been wearing it down more often just so I can smell it. The shampoo’s scent is definitely stronger than the conditioner’s-strong enough to have me taking hits straight from the bottle as a morning wake-up call – but they both smell delicious.

My husband accused me of wearing some sort of man-attracting perfume, even though I was wearing sweat pants and no makeup, so I would say it’s definitely not too floral or feminine to share with a dude.

Just like all the Head & Shoulders Scalp Care products I’ve tried it leaves my hair healthy and shiny. It’s even pH balanced and gentle enough for everyday use on color treated or permed hair, so even if I do get to the salon for that color I’ve had my eye on, I can keep using it.

I also love that the conditioner doesn’t weigh my hair down even when I use it all the way to my roots, so I can skip a day (or two) of hair washing and still look great.

And once again, BlogHer and Head & Shoulders want to give YOU a chance to win a $50 Visa Gift Card!

  1. Lisa says:

I use my straightening iron to try to get my wavy hair under control then raid my closet (trying not to leave half my wardrobe on the floor) and look for an outfit I haven’t worn in awhile which still looks great and isn’t out of fashion.

  2. Swistle says:

I have my daily make-up down to “moisturizer and sheer lip tint,” but on date nights I put on powder and blush and eyeliner and real lipstick. I also get out the fancy earrings.

  3. susan says:

I take a shower, and put on makeup! Not a lot, though, because I’m not used to it.

  4. Mami2jcn says:

I’m sorry to tell you we haven’t had a date night in 9 years! We have dates at home when the kids are sleeping. That’s what Netflix and Redbox are for! I get ready with some Victoria’s Secret vanilla spray that my husband really likes.

  6. Amanda says:

Date nights (which obviously don’t happen often) mean:
Real lotion for adults and not the baby lavender stuff I keep using because it’s handy
Perfume instead of lovely scent of spit up
Bronzer and eyeshadow, the only makeup I ever wear
High heels! I ditch my converse for real shoes once in a blue moon!

  7. Jeania says:

I find a cute outfit in my closet, something I don’t have to worry about getting baby food on, or having immediate access to the boobs, put some make-up on to cover up the tell tale signs of sleep deprivation and curl my hair, cause omg it looks limp and heinous if I don’t.

  8. Jennifer W says:

My date night routine is to shower, actually blow dry and curl my hair, do all of my makeup (no just foundation and mascara) and dress up. It doesn’t matter if we’re just going to Taco Bell…I am dressing up. :)

  9. I ACTUALLY blow dry my hair when we’re going out for dinner or a movie, as opposed to letting it air dry at home or in the car (as usual)! And maybe a little mascara…

  10. Date night routine: wash jeans, put on clean jeans, run out of the house before the toddler can touch me.

  11. Rosa says:

I like to smell good and have my hair shining and clean.

  12. *Sigh* I miss date night. They WILL allegedly be making a comeback in 2012, on Saturdays. We’ll see. My routine for date night doesn’t vary all that much from my normal routine except that I like to take time to actually do my hair. Most mornings when I’m getting ready for work, I just pull it back, sometimes while it’s still wet. On date night, I prefer to shampoo, blow dry and straighten.

  13. Jessica says:

Routine? I’m usually holding the bathroom door closed with my foot while I try to use a straightener on my hair before the kids bust in.

  14. Kelly D says:

I put on light makeup & perfume and wear one of my favorite dresses for date nights.

  15. Suz says:

For date night, I might actually put on full make up instead of just my normal mascara & tinted moisturizer!

  16. Ashley H. says:

Shower, pick out cute outfit, makeup, hair, perfume.

  17. Katherine says:

I love our ‘at home date nights’! Not only do we save on babysitter, but we both get to have two (or three) drinks without having to worry about who is driving home! I like to get dressed and do my hair and makeup as if we were going out, then once the kiddos are in bed we order out for dinner and rent a redbox movie to watch while we eat and snuggle together.

  18. Denae says:

Date night gets clean non-spit up clothes and if I have extra time make up and an extra round of mouthwash. Sexy right? We are always in a rush to deliver the baby to the babysitters (grandparents).

  19. Jessica says:

I like to look very natural but still polished… just a little lip gloss and mascara! And straight hair!

  20. Shower, shave, cologne (polo blue), style the hair, throw on the “going out clothes” and take the Mrs. by the arm!

  21. Jamie B says:

Well, it sure has been a long time since we had a date night. But that’s the time that I actually get to do my hair with a straightener and some pretty barrettes or pins. I actually put makeup on! And if my hubby is really lucky, I might even find some time to shave my legs. ;-)

  22. Sonya Morris says:

My beauty routine for a date night is to wear some extra mascara and dress up my jeans with heels!

  23. courtney b says:

i curl my hair and put on some pretty lip gloss!

  24. megan says:

I take the extra 5 minutes to blow dry my hair. Then put on powder, blush, mascara and lip gloss (or chapstick if that is all I can find). I also dig out a pair of sling back heels out of the closet.

  25. Trista says:

I honesrtly get ready early in the day… sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t!

  26. steff says:

shower, heels, curled hair, mascara, and perfume!

  27. I shower (usually) and maybe even shave, if he’s extra lucky (bow chicka bow bow!!!)

  28. Aubrey says:

straighten hair, put on makeup and spray perfume!

  29. amy pugmire says:

I just try to get dressed and put some makeup on i just had baby #3 so i am still trying to adjust :)

  30. Susan Smith says:

I take a shower, put on makeup put gel in my hair and let it dry naturally and pick out an outfit

  31. Emily says:

Oh, date night! I think we’ve had a few of those since baby was born… let’s see… I tend to make sure I took a shower that day (not always the case if there’s no date involved), I actually put some product in my hair and blow dry it so it looks nice, I put a bit of makeup on, and I ALWAYS wear dangly earrings or a necklace (absolute no-no’s with baby grabby hands around). Oh, I wear some clothes, too… hopefully not straight from the laundry basket, but that’s not guaranteed…

  32. Amy Tong says:

My routine for getting ready for a date night starts with a shower. I have very greasy hair and I need to wash it every day. Then, simple make up, hair-do and pick out the outfits….maybe my husband’s too.

  45. Amanda Sakovitz says:

i blow dry my hair straight the morning of before a date

  46. ANGEL JACKLYN says:

MY BEAUTY ROUTINE BEGINS IN THE SHOWER. WHEN I GET CLEAN, I GET REALLY CLEAN LOL.

THEN IT PROGRESSES TO HAIR & MAKEUP. I LIKE TO LET ME HAIR BEGIN TO AIR DRY WHILE I DO MY MAKEUP SO THERE’S LESS WORK AFTERWORDS, BUT I ALWAYS APPLY PRODUCT STRAIGHT OUT THE SHOWER ANYWAY.

WHEN IT COMES TO CLOTHING, THAT TAKES FOREVER (HEY, I GOTTA DO WHAT I GOTTA DO, RIGHT?). I USUALLY END UP TRYING ON 10 DIFFERENT OUTFITS BEFORE COMING TO A CONCLUSION.

THEN I’M OUT THE DOOR, HOPING TO GOD I’M NOT RUNNING LATE.

  47. Tina M says:

light makeup, perfume and my favorite dress

  48. Christina Tong says:

  65. Melissa T says:

My date night routine is a shower, shave, lotion and spray my favorite fragrance all while listening to the good music to get good vibes going. Then I give my hair a bouncey blow out while listening to the latest news just so i’m caught up and not caught off guard if any current events come up. Last but not least I stare at my closet or am in and out of outfits for the minimum of 30 minutes trying to find something that makes me feel comfortable and look great. Lol* even if I try to plan an outfit a head I still spend forever on clothes T___T

    Thank you for the opportunity!
