Housekeeping

No, this isn’t actually a post about housekeeping, although I could write another one of those if you want. I got a LOT of real-life feedback from people who read my last housekeeping post, including people who are actually using my lists as their lists for staying on top of things. That’s a lot of pressure – especially since I never even printed them out for myself so I have to keep searching my own blog for today’s cleaning schedule. I’ve been keeping up with my “do one major chore a day” plan pretty well, except for Tuesday where I refused to clean my sink mostly on principle – I cooked for lunch AND dinner so doing the dishes twice in one day was more than I could handle. Is that really pathetic? I’m going to go with no, not pathetic, just the life of someone who is SO EXHAUSTED by 3 pm she can fall asleep on the couch while a toddler hits her in the head with things and yet still has 8 more hours before bed. So yeah, my sink can stay dirty and the FlyLady can suck it.

Wow, that was quite a tangent. Here’s the bloggy housekeeping stuff I was ACTUALLY talking about:

1. I entered BOTH kids in a local (suuuuuuper amazing) photographer’s contest to become her kid model for the year. She’s offering a free photo shoot for the family AND for the child who wins, and since she takes the kind of photos I can’t afford I’m hoping I can enlist your help. I think you have to like the My Four Hen’s Facebook Page first, but then if you could “like” the pictures of Caroline (in the Little Miss M4H album) and Evan (in the Little Mr M4H album) I would love you for eveeeeeeeeeer.

These are the pictures you’re voting for:

2. I swear this is the only time I will mention it, but if you could take a second to click on the Top Baby Blogs button over in my right sidebar it would keep me from getting super depressed over being, like, 546th on the list. I’m never going to be on the front page and I HATE the begging for clicks but I have found a ton of other awesome blogs to read from browsing that list so I’d like to stay on it. You can vote once a day, every day, so if you happen to remember without me bugging you I’d appreciate it. Oh and if you want you can like bebehblog on Facebook too – the link is over in the left sidebar. I like to make people click on things and am also very needy.

3. I have no idea how to go about this so I’m just putting it here: although I’m already committed to running the BlogHer ad banner, I would love to help promote handmade shops with ads here on bebehblog. If you have a shop (especially a newish shop you’d like to start advertising) please email me at bebehblog at gmail dot com. I have no idea what a 125×125 ad goes for on a smallish mommy blog but I can assure you I am willing to work with ANYONE’S budget.

4. Ditto everything in number 3 but instead of “blog” substitute “BlogHer conference in San Diego”. Can I wear your product? Can my baby wear your product? Would you like your name on the back of my business cards? Conferences are expensive y’all, and even if you’re thinking “I’m a tiny shop! I can’t afford to sponsor someone!” you should email me. I’m not looking for someone to cover the whole cost, just maybe a couple of frappuccinos.

5. Last year I participated in the March of Dimes and thanks to the generosity of my friends, family and blog readers I raised over $500 for our team. I didn’t get my act together early enough to do my own fundraising this year – although I’ll probably still walk with our Stroller Strides team as moral support – but many of my internet friends have formed their own teams and are trying to raise money for MoD. If it’s a cause you like to support, please consider donating to one of them – especially Jenny, who gave birth to TRIPLETS at 28 weeks and credits the work MoD does for preemies with having all three adorable babies home and healthy now.

6. If you don’t mind, can you leave a comment telling me what kind of post you like best? Do you like the ones with lots of pictures? The iPhone linky? Wordless Wednesday? The “what’s for dinner” posts? Everyday motherhood crap? Baby & toddler updates? Crafty stuff? I’m sort of an all-over-the-place blogger because, well, I’m not interesting enough to write about just one thing all the time but if there’s something you wish I’d write about more I can try to make that happen. Sigh. There I go, acting like someone besides my mother CARES what I write about. And even she hardly ever comments so I’m not even sure she read anymore.

Ok, I promise that is all the bloggy business I’m going to shove in your faces this month. Or next month. I may be annoying again in April but it’s my birthday month so you can’t be mad. It’s in the blog reader’s handbook. What, you didn’t get one of those? I’ll mail it right out.

  1. I love the babycenter month-day blog posts. Not sure why other than they are always very cute and funny. I also really like the craft projects and will be copying several of them (as soon as I get around to it…). My mother just made a bunch of felted pins for valentines day and used your blog as the bible for how to do it. Good luck with the M4H contest!!!! Their actions rocked my world!!! Ever since you told me about them I’ve been obsessed with their stuff. That would a really awesome thing to win! :)

  2. Suz B says:

I like photos, I like the food, I like hearing what the kids are up to~ heck, I like it all Suzanne!
Glad you hear you’re also going to be at BlogHer! This will be my first conference & I’m very nervously excited. I also don’t have any sponsors {yet?!}.
I’m on Jenny’s March of Dimes team & I’m $60 from my $250 goal if anyone wants to help me out my link is: http://www.marchforbabies.org/suzstreats

  3. Krista T says:

I LOVE all the pictures you post! And I love giggling with you over your daily mama trials (at least, I HOPE you crack yourself up, too!), and your food always looks yummy! :)

  4. Kitty Conner says:

    1)Liking!
    2)Clicking!
3)& 4)I’m am wholly on the demand-side of Etsy, not supply, so nothing to advertise, but I would so buy adorable things.
5)Actually supporting my MIL for her walk this year. So proud of her, she raised bunches!
6)The best part of your blog is all of it. The randomness. The fact that you have SO much to offer. The cute but attainable crafty/party stuff, the funny mom/toddler/baby stuff, the serious mom/toddler/baby stuff, the cute but attainable photography, the iPhone linky. All of it. Really. Promise. It just wouldn’t be the same if you weren’t so all over the place.

    • Krista T says:

You know what, you NAILED it! Couldn’t have described it better myself. Suzanne, embrace the randomness! LOL!!! :)

    • bebehblog says:

You are so kind and accommodating I’m afraid you must accidentally be on some sort of mood-enhancing drugs. No one likes me this much :)

  5. Audrey says:

I like that you write about all sorts of things. And it increases the general readership of your blog that you do so, I’d wager. (I WORKED IN MARKETING, I KNOWS THINGS)

I got an invite to have Blogher ads on my blog shortly before Del was born (and my computer died and those invites were subsequently lost into the id) but I’m never sure if I should go there. Do I really want ads all over my blog? Do I really think I have a readership of any size that I’d get any payout from the ads? Why do I want the ads? These are all questions I ask myself. I feel like everyone else has them and so should I. Peer pressure with ads networks? Now that’s a story! :D The truth is I read stories about conferences like the crafty one you went to and I want to have those experiences. And somehow my brain thinks the ads will get me there.

  6. molly says:

I like every post you write. Not picky. I’m a bit further ahead of you in the 2 kids game and I like seeing what’s going on. It reminds me of those first wonderful and frustrating weeks with 2 kiddos.

p.s. you will go to Blogher. You WILL. No buts about it.

  7. I like your blog random. It makes each day a surprise. I do, however, have daily blog post expectations, except Sunday. Even the lord took a day off, I suppose you can too. Anything less than that, I club a seal.

    • bebehblog says:

Since I once suggested using baby seals pelts as cloth diapers your threats mean nothing to me. Although I feel a lot of pressure from MYSELF to post every day.

  8. Erin L says:

I LOVE all the photos and “What’s For Dinner?” the best!

  9. Katie says:

You rock. I CACKLED when I read that you are “someone who is SO EXHAUSTED by 3 pm she can fall asleep on the couch while a toddler hits her in the head with things.” Mostly because I am experienced in toddlers hitting me in the head with things.

  10. Alena says:

If too many shops contact you about ad space or blogher…you pass ’em my way. I can pay my way, but I’d love to support a shop while I’m there!

Also…I like all posts. I am no help.

And I’m walking for Team Jenny (ok Team Peanut Butter Jelly Time). If anyone wants to donate to me…..the link is on my blog!

    • bebehblog says:

Tell you what, if I am SO OVERRUN with offers I will definitely pass them on to you. But considering I have received exactly zero in the last 12 hours I wouldn’t hold your breath. Or obsessively check your email all day, like some people might be doing.

  11. Done, done and done. I am SO embarrassed that I had not yet “liked” your blog on Facebook. DUH. And your kids are totally going to win that photo competition! And I totally love your blog just the way it is — your narrative voice is so unique (and funny). It’s what drew me here (via your hilarious tweets). xo!

  12. Jen F (from Robinson) says:

I agree that the randomness is awesome. My all-time favorite though is the iPhone linky (ho boy, my iPhone just tried to auto-correct that to “kinky” – that’s a whole other type of post!!!). I love it that there are pics of everyday homemaker life, but with hilarious captions. Second favorite is the craft/party ones. I feel like I could do some of that (but I don’t…).

Um, I’m afraid I’ll get booed for this, but my least fav is the Wordless Wednesdays. Don’t get me wrong, the pics are great, but you know… The words. I like them.

OH!  I almost forgot!  The giveaways!!!  I miss them.

    • bebehblog says:

I am THRILLED you like the iPhone posts. I stole the original idea from the awesome Emmie Bee (http://www.emmiebee.com/) because I loved it but I sometimes feel like no one REALLY cares that we went to the aquarium AGAIN or if my kid made a mess while he was eating. Glad to know I’m not boring your socks off!

  13. Katie Gibson-Stofflet says:

BTW – you are 131 on the list :)

  14. Denae says:

I like the mix. I hate it when a blog gets on a kick. If I wanted to read a blog dedicated to food, I would add a foodie blog to my reader. I think your posts are a reflection of your life which isnt all cookiing, crafting, or cuteness. You are real and I <3 that.

I cant help you with the sponsor stuff. I have thought about opening an etsy shop but haven't yet. And I wish I could raise money to go to blogher but that isnt happening this year. If you are a smallish blog, I am a micro blog.

I did give you clickys though! =)

    • bebehblog says:

Thank you for the clicks! Some days I feel like I’m just about to break into that mid-level of mommy blogging where you get PR pitches for things like free baby clothes and people share your posts all over facebook…but then I get a week where NO ONE reads and I remember I started this blog 90% for me and only 10% for the fame and fortune. Hey, at least I’m honest.

  15. Robyn says:

i like the mommy stuff, crafts, and baby/toddler updates…so i guess i like the randomness too!

  16. Betsy says:

Suzanne, I’m a fan of the fact that you are random in your blog, and write about everything. What ties it all together is your down-to-earth grace, and your superb sense of humor!

    • bebehblog says:

I don’t think anyone has ever used the word “grace” to describe me before. I like it. Thank you so so much Betsy.

  17. Katherine says:

I love that you write about all kinds of things. I feel like its not repetitive, and that is definitely something I look for in my blogroll. My favorites though? I’d say (like I did the other day) are the whats for dinner posts. Im constantly looking for new things to make and have gotten many “keepers” from those posts. Xo!

  18. “liked” them both on FB.

Change nothing, keep posting what you have been. I LOVE all your posts. For reals.

  19. I think the randomness of your blog is what keeps me coming back… oh yes and the fact that you have two wicked adorable kiddos… oh yes and the funny… you dose out quite a bit of funny. I would totally help sponsor you, btw for blogher, but our business is not kiddo related… does that matter?

  20. tricia says:

my blog is also totally and completely random. i can’t be expected to keep some sort of schedule, because HOLY CRAP, i have two kids now, too. i can’t even guarantee myself a shower everyday, let alone a schedule of posts. i’m new, and i’m kind of in love with your blog. i’ll click the crap out of the top baby blogs button, and if i had a shop, i’d help you with the blogher expenses. but i can’t craft, or sew, or really do anything well. except nurse my kid, at this point. oh, and try not to fall asleep in the middle of the day. i’m hooked on your writing, it’s teh awesome.

  21. FourInchHeels says:

More photos. Always more photos. You have adorable children, and it’s just unfair to not share them with us.

And I like your randomness – keep it up!
