Eight

Today is my 8 year wedding anniversary, which means I have a completely legitimate excuse to post wedding pictures!

Remember, in 2004 most fancy photographers were still shooting with film, so excuse the quality. You’d think having 2 kids and a minivan would make me feel old but thinking about film – FILM! – pushed me right over the edge. Excuse me while I go cry into a pillow.

In my head, we’re the kind of super romantic people who take balloon rides and drink champagne at sunset and buy each other extravagant gifts for our anniversary. In real life, I usually remember to buy a card and E usually remembers to say “Happy Anniversary” at about 11:28 pm. This year, I’m sick and E is working so our entire celebration will probably consist of watching the Olympics for 10 minutes before we both pass out. Last night he helped me clean out the bottom layer of dog hair and juice residue from the bottom of the toy box.

And you know what? I’m totally OK with that. Obviously I would love an all expenses paid vacation to a private island (we’d bring the kids AND a nanny) to celebrate but the fact that I still think “Hey, this guy’s pretty awesome” after spending almost a decade together is cool too. Sometimes love isn’t so much about romance and flowers as it is about having someone to complain to about your crappy day and knowing they actually care.

Happy Anniversary E! I’m so glad we’re on this adventure together, even when it’s more like a Griswold family vacation than Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet.

    Yes. Yes!

    Happy Anniversary!

Yesterday was my 11 & 6 anniversary (11 years together, married for 6.) We didn’t do anything special. My husband didn’t even realize it was the 6th until I reminded him. Tsk Tsk.

I had several of those “Woah! Eleven years and I still want to be right where I am” moments. As good as any expensive gift.

    (Not really)

    Also you look beautiful!!

  6. Gorgeous!! Love these pics. And you’re totally right about the celebration stuff. Just being together (and still liking each other) is plenty awesome. Congratulations on 8 years!

Happy Anniversary!!! It’s so great to hear of a couple still happy after 8 years. Congratulations! This year is also my 8th wedding anniversary (May 12). It has been quite the ride, not always as we expected. Sometimes worse and harder but more often the past 8 years have definitely been a lot happier and more fulfilling than we thought possible. I’m sure you can identify with that.

Congrats! What fun pictures! I kind of miss film instead of digital. It had that sense of anticipation and mystery to see what moments were caught. Clearly, you had a good photographer. It’s easier to be good now with digital.

I love seeing your wedding photos every year-I can’t believe what good taste you had at such a young age (that is coming across wrong, but I am hoping you know what I mean :) Matt and I got married when I was almost 32 and I still needed my sister to plan the whole thing.

Yesterday was our 7 year anniversary and how we spent it pretty much paralleled your day! We even researched vacuums together. I can hardly stand the romance.

  13. Amy says:

Happy Anniversary! My wedding photographer (a month before yours) was actually cheaper because he shot exclusively in digital and people didn’t always want to hire him.

  14. Rebecca says:

Happy Anniversary!! You were a stunning bride :) Eight years is like 45 in celeb years, so raise a glass!

Beautiful bride, I learned photography on film… we are old. Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary, and I am feeling pretty impressed with myself that not only did I remember to get a card, but also… wait for it… bought husband a paperback book for our trip next week. (This is above and beyond the call of duty.) Like you said, seven years in, I am happy to know we say I love you, everyday and mean it. We like to do nothing together, and we still dream together.

Happy Anniversary!!!! Gotta love that Griswold quote at the end. So true!!!

  19. Meagan says:

You look so happy! We’ll celebrate 8 years in October and our wedding photos were film too…crazy! Happy Anniversary!

Bee-yoo-ti-ful! Such a lovely day, in a lovely location, for a lovely couple. After missing 3 of my 6 anniversaries, due to deployments, just being together for our anniversary is great….even if it is wiping up baby spit, and sitting on the couch sharing a Digorno’s pizza….or helping my hubby rebuild a car engine (true story…how we spent our first anniversary).
