Tattoos

Obviously, I can’t let something as important as the birth of my first child pass without getting a new tattoo – or as my mother puts it, “Ruining my body with something [I] will regret when [I’m] 65”.  E wants to get one too, although we’re not necessarily going to get exactly the same thing. i checked the internet for ideas and the standard seems to be baby footprints. Very cute but not very original. Plus if I do the same thing for my other future (imaginary) children, I’ll end up looking like I’ve been stomped to death by infants.

So I spent my evening playing with fonts and numbers to try and create something on my own. I’m definitely not an artist and I’m not set on any of these – I just need something to show my tattoo guy so he has an idea of what’s in my head. I might include the date. I’ll probably get it on my left wrist. What do you think?

p.s. Number 1 & 2 are supposed to look kind of like butterflies and number 3 like an infinity symbol. I like the idea of the meaning being kind of obscure.

I think I like Number 8 best. One of my friends got a tattoo of her son’s handprint which is…adorable!

I like 6, 8, and 11. Also, you might want to bear in mind that E3 also stands for the Electronic Entertainment Expo. So people might ask you why you have that tattooed on your wrist.

    Suz,
I like number 9 a lot because of the roman numerals, and I’m quite fond of that style of a capital “E.”

I also love number 2 because it truly looks like a butterfly and that could be a few meanings: obviously the Evan the third meaning and butterfly means new life, and they are just pretty!

oh oh! you should plant a butterfly bush in your yard :-) If you don’t already have one, they are beautiful and attract lots of summer butterflies.

The baby is adorable and I am so anxious to meet him!

  4. I like 1 (without the date), 2, and 3 the best.

Emmy – Since I already have a huge purple butterfly bush in my garden, I planted two blueberry bushes instead. I figure next summer Baby Evan can help pick and eat “his” berries. I’m going to take some pictures if he and I are ever clean and dressed at the same time.

My favorites are 5 and 11, but really I like them all. It took me a second to get the first couple. I was like “why is there a backwards E” and then I realized its a 3! Duh!

I like #8 best…it is also clean enough that when you get it on a place like your wrist it won’t blur together b/c there is too much going on.

I LOVE the E in #5 and #11, and the roman numerals in #9, maybe you could make them smaller and put them inside the swirly loop at the bottom of either E.

My cousin has the footprints, and now (after 3 kids plus her own print) her foot looks like it has been attacked by one of those stamp rollers!

I like number 2 best. Whatever you choose I would suggest not getting the date.

    Now I think I like 8 best.

I like 3 the best. I like the idea of getting it on your wrist, but your third child might feel unloved.

I think #5 is very elegant, yet artsy.

  13. I like #8 as well..and I just got a tattoo with a date in it, so I’m partial to them. Plus if/when you have more kids you can add more little letters to it so the big E is surrounded by baby letters :D

I like 9 & 11 the best…. I also like 2 for the butterfly shape. You should look into flowers that represent Baby E’s birth month too so you can girly yours up a bit. I am very excited to be giving my daughter a plant themed name that can be easily tattooed somewhere :)
