He's finally here!!
Seriously, before I can even tell you about the baby, I need to talk about how epidurals are the most amazing thing in the entire world. I want one every day. I want to give them to all my friends for Christmas. I want to find a way to sell them on the streets like crack because I would be a millionaire in a week. I LOVE YOU EPIDURAL.
Evan Richard Davis III was born at 7:21 pm on April 5th, 2009. He is 7 lbs 12 oz and 20.5 inches long. His apgar scores (a sort of useless measure of how active and pink your baby is, mostly used as a way for parents to claim their newborn is superior to yours) were 8 and 9. He didn’t cry right away but is getting pretty good at it now, although he hasn’t really committed to screaming his head off for any length of time. He had a little trouble warming up so the nurses have been watching his blood sugar but the pediatrician says he’s fine now. E is excelling at both baby holding and diaper changing.
My full labor and delivery story (complete with gross details and sound effects) to follow, but for now know that it was actually shamefully easy. If I had known it was going to be like that I would have spent a lot less time worrying about it and a lot more time on something worthwhile – like thinking up ways to sell epidurals to drug addicts.
Oh gosh those pictures are amazing. I really love the last one of Mama and Baby. You have this look on your face like “Hey I just gave birth! What did you do today, suckers?”
I am so happy for you all. If I ever have kids, I want a birth like yours. Minus all the early contractions. Although I guess when it came down to it, it was all worth it, eh?
My mom also loves epidurals. She said she was laughing when I came out.
Yay! He’s beautiful, especially with his “What, just born and you’re already fixing on my weight” face, and you look very contented together :D
And uh..re: epidurals… hook a sister up! We’re all “prepregnant” anyway, right?
Oh congrats guys!! I was so excited to get the text last night I told the driver of the taxi I was in that my friend just had a baby and he’s gorgeous! I guess all the early labor stuff was his way of building up to what was an easy birth. Yay?!?!!
I don’t often get to say this about the “I just popped a kid out” photo … but you look GORGEOUS!
Congrats you two, I’m so happy for you!!
Wow!!! He’s so freakin’ cute!!! Good job!!!! I love him already!!! :) I think he looks like you though, but I haven’t seen the red hair yet.
AWWWW!!! He’s THE CUTEST OF THE CUTE, so tiny and unbelievably precious!! And, yeah, I’d probably tell every new parent their kid was cute, but not with supurlatives and NOT IN ALL CAPS! CAPS MAKE IT TRUE!
Is that ginger fuzz I spy on his little head?
P.S. How do you looks so pretty and glowy after just giving birth?? I’d hate you if I didn’t think you totally deserve to look glowy and gorgeous, since you did just create a whole human being.
Congratulations! He’s gorgeous (but you knew that already!)
I’m with you on the epidural! Right after my first was born I boldly stated “I could do that again, no problem.” They were lovely, lovely drugs.
So happy for you!
Way to look like a mascara commercial after pushing out a baby, lady. And he is SO CUTE AND YUMMY. I can’t wait to come hold him.
O.M.G. Suzanne he looks EXACTLY like you I think. You are both GORGEOUS, like sickly so after one of the less gorgeous things that can happen to a person, plus yes you need to get your mascara company on the line for a licensing deal STAT. OMG! Also thank you for being living proof that an “easy” birth is indeed possible. OMG. I kind of can’t deal. CONGRATS!!! to all 3 of you! I have so many very specific questions about labor but I will save them for later when you forget the details anyway.
What a sweetheart!
He’s absolutely gorgeous (as are you)! Congratulations!
Congratulations, I love the name Evan (that’s the name my sisters and I use for our imaginary brother).
Congratulations! Now I want an epidural!
Congrats!!! Your mom/baby pic is simply adorable and you look great! Looking forward to your new mom posts in the weeks ahead. :)
Can I get one just for fun anywhere? Anyone?! Anyway, I agree with JD, he looks SO MUCH LIKE YOU, but with Evan’s ginger hair! Also, where is this Baby Lojack on the little man? I was expecting something fun but I’m guessing it’s in the bracelets! Have you been calling him Evan or E or Junior or Little E or what?! I want to nom him already!
He’s beautiful! Congrats!
OMG he’s so perfect and you look so glowing! Congratulations!
Wonderful news! He’s so, so gorgeous. Looking forward to hearing the gruesome details! I love epidurals too. I’m really looking forward to my next one! There’s something about the absence of pain that is so enjoyable. Also: I love the minty-fresh sensation you get when the fluid is topped up! Congratulations x
So usually I make a joke about how the little guy looks NOTHING like his father. Although I agree with most here – He looks a lot like you in the pictures, The slick middle finger in that second photo definitely screams “I’m baby E…. F U”
Congrats.
congratulations! beautiful photos, and I am happy everything went well. so exciting!!
Congrats to you both!! He’s adorable and I’m glad both mom and baby E are doing well. I must agree he does look like you Suzanne… Congrats again!!
Oh my gosh! Congratulations! And I’m SO glad the labor was easy and all that jazz. You are too cute and he is precious and perfect and YAY!
Mazel tov! He’s gorgeous.
