My Week(99) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

I took fewer pictures (200 compared to my usual 400) this week, especially when we were out and about. I don’t think that number will ever be zero – these posts are too important to me, since I can literally look back on every day of Caroline’s life so far – but I’m learning the difference between capturing a moment and capturing every second of the day.

The Magical Fort of Healing

The plan was to take beautiful family photos for a friend in front of this fountain. It was off and some sort of carnival was happening around it. Photo fail.

Getting a jump start on some holiday knitting

But Mommy, how can Caroline take a nap without her dolly??????

My son’s pedicure is in better shape than mine.

When you’re trying to keep a child quiet, you read them the same book every time they ask, even if you’re two seconds from losing your mind.

Bedtime snuggles

Because doesn’t everyone carry a cow and an elephant around with them?

Well sure, Mom, you almost lost your sanity making me that Tinkerbell dress but this old sheep outfit I found in the dress up box makes a MUCH better Halloween costume!

Mommy-Caroline time at the grocery store seems like a VACATION compared to bringing 2 kids.

Obviously taking the orders to keep quiet very seriously.

Beautiful night for an evening walk

Yo, duck, sup?

Ermagerd! Fresh Beat Band!

This game is called “Someone is going to end up in tears so KNOCK IT OFF”

Much better.

And this game is called “Let Mom think we’re being good so she’ll turn her back for 5 minutes”

We’re trying to have quiet time today (so far it’s at about a 30% success rate) with a nice nature walk this afternoon to celebrate the first day of fall and to find some pinecones (the internet LOVES pinecones). I’m also going to attempt to take a shower, if I can remember how. It’s been a while. It’s not pretty. Wish me luck.

Busy, crafty, bakey, sleepy, crazy week. I cannot BELIEVE it’s December.

Saw cute toddler hat online. Thought "Dude, I can do that". DID IT.

I made this. WITH MY HANDS.

My floors are disgusting. Were disgusting. Obviously I cleaned them, but they're probably this dirty again by now.

Invite for Caroline's first birthday. I'm insanely proud I made it from scratch.

I asked him to smile nice for the camera. Toddlers are so helpful.

Babies are also helpful.

I wish I got as much sleep as this kid.

Twinke lights photo shoot set up #2. It went MUCH better.

Christmas cards DONE.

My kid tried to blow out the birthday boy's candles. He thinks all parties are for him.

Demanding baby demands your french fries.

I’ve been so busy doing stuff I haven’t had time to BLOG the stuff I’ve done (even though a lot of it is stuff I WANT to blog) and I’m going kind of crazy. I feel like I haven’t sat down for a whole week – and that might actually be true, because somehow I’m managing to lose weight even with Thanksgiving and road trip food and sugar cookie dough for lunch. I actually fell asleep sitting up on the couch Friday night. But I’ve only got 2 weeks until Caroline’s first birthday (and the party I SWORE I wasn’t going to throw) and 3 weeks until Christmas, so I figure I can sleep after New Years. I’m looking forward to it.

Knitting Up A Storm

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

I am a knitting machine! Well, no, not an actual knitting machine – which is a thing – but someone who has been doing a lot of knitting. I am BETTER than a machine, because all my stuff is made with love. And baby slobber. And dog hair. But mostly love.

Here’s what’s been on my needles:

I saw a pair of knit leggings on Pinterest a few weeks ago (which of course I didn’t repin, so I can’t link to the picture now) and thought “hey, I could totally do that”. So I did. Patternless, off the top of my head. Unfortunately, although he was EXTREMELY happy to model them for these photos, yellow leggings don’t really go with the rest of Little Evan’s wardrobe – so these have been shipped off to someone who I know will look even cuter in them.

Pumpkin hat. Caroline’s got one too. Pattern half made up in my head, half from this site.

My first try at this adorable knit necklace my friend Megan made based on the pattern here. It’s two strips knit separately and woven together. You can wear it this way or reverse it for a different braid pattern. I’m going to make a dozen more.

I was afraid I had waited too long to finish this dress I started in the spring, and Caroline would have grown out of the small size before I was done, but with a onesie and leggings it’s still perfect for fall. I’ve never knitted pleats before and was worried they were above my skill level but it turns out they’re totally manageable – even for the kind of disjointed, interrupted, stop and start knitting I do most of the time. (The pattern is called Fiona Baby Sundress and is available for free on Ravelry as a download.)

Love the pointed hood

If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember me knitting Phoebe Mouse and Phoebe’s sweater. The book also included a toddler sized version of the doll sweater – unfortunately, it was for a 2 year old and my baby is a peanut. So I used the pattern for the mouse-sized coat and did a little math and made it Caroline sized. I’m SO EXCITED that it fits and that she has a beautiful fall coat now. It makes me feel like Caroline Ingalls (who is honest to God one of my actual heroes) that something I made is so FUNCTIONAL. It’s more than a hobby! I make CLOTHES.

I wanted to finish this cowl before I wrote a post about what I was knitting, so I sped through the last 2 inches during every spare minute yesterday. My husband literally took this picture for me at 9:30 last night. It’s the most basic cowl you can possibly make (cast on an odd number of stitches, knit 1 purl 1 until it’s long enough, bind off) but I help the multi-toned yarn double so it’s super warm and comfy.

And finally, one more quick bunny I’ve had 50% finished on a stitch holder since BlogHer in August. It took less than 10 minutes to finish and it feels SO GOOD to now having it staring at me every time I open my knitting bag. FACELESS BUNNY WAS JUDGING ME.

Now all I have to do is finish the sweater I started for E a full year ago – and the one I started for myself even longer ago than that. WHY can’t person-sized sweaters be as fast and fun and easy as baby stuff?! But I will get them done. It’s what Ma Ingalls would want.

Despite Caroline starting the week with a 103+ degree fever, we held things together pretty well. Since she never developed any other symptoms, I’m pretty sure it was due to the FOUR teeth that are trying to break through and making her miserable and sleepless, but we skipped Stroller Strides on Monday just to make sure. Then to make up for skipping we went ALL THE OTHER DAYS. I’m exhausted.

That's my favorite part of a workout too.

We stopped at a yard sale where I bought NONE of these things. I actually own that white tray in the front and mine is in better condition.

Sleepy baby

It looks like all I buy is junk, but I promise the fruits and veggies are under the soda

I made a rookie mistake and left a tube of vaseline within reach of the toddler while I put Caroline down for a nap. SHINY!

6 pm - still in our jammies, playing angry birds

I knit a cowl. I hate it. I ripped it out again.

Evan INSISTED on wearing his sandals with his socks. Maybe he thinks he's European.

Last pick up at our CSA

Whoa, check out my HANDS, MAN. They're so BIG.

I was late for Stroller Strides because I was stuck on a 2 lane road while a pilgrim unloaded 40 kids from a school bus. New England is weird.

Handsome little man

I can't even stand it. WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BABY?

"Hey I found this in Mom's purse. Check it out." "Nope, no money in here. Guess we won't be running away today." "But she's buying BRUSSELS SPROUTS!"

So big!

Mama, I PUSH IT!

Up with the baby. Again.

"Mom, mom, mom, mom, mama, mom, mom, mom, mommy, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom!" "WHAT?!?!" "......Hi."

No watch news, OK, mama? Watch TV! No news. Okay.

Entrelac. It's interestesting, but not very fast.

The entire plan for today is to knit and to eat things, maybe with a nap thrown in for fun. If I get really ambitious we might go for a stroll this afternoon but only because then I can pretend I’m wearing sweat pants for a workout instead of just because I’m lazy. Tomorrow’s plan is exactly the same. Yah weekends!

My Week(49) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

E had this past week off, but instead of doing tons of super fun stuff I made a list of every single I-should-really-get-that-done-but-I’m-exhausted-from-chasing-the-kids chore I’ve been putting off for the past 3 years and started crossing them off. Hang pictures! Sort clothes! Organize the attic AND the basement! Get a new eyeglasses prescription! Wind and store all the yarn I’ve been hiding behind the elliptical trainer in the guest room! Do ALL the laundry!

I’ve got today and tomorrow to finish the rest of the list plus give the house a once-over cleaning, decorate for Halloween and finally make the loaf of almond bread and the pear-gorgonzola tart I’ve had bookmarked for weeks.

What do you MEAN this is the only picture you took all day? I'm freakin' ADORABLE!

Epic Michael's trip for Halloween decor. I decided the terrifying skeletons would be a poor choice for a kid's party.

I patched, sanded, and painted the walls going up the stairs.

Pair on the left cost $300. Pair on the right was free. I got both.

I thought this baby looked like Caroline so I bought this book. I'm going to knit the crap out of that sweater.

Chilling at the yarn store

The ice cream stand was shockingly uncrowded on a Friday night. Maybe because it was only 60 degrees out.

Stop lookin' at my waffles like that.

My friend from @CostaFarms sent me a giant box of houseplants because she thought I'd like them. My goal is to keep them alive at least a week.

Bye-bye Back-yard-gans! Sing song! Bye-bye!

Time to go finish knitting Caroline’s fall coat, bake, mop the floors, play legos with my kid, catch up on this week’s TV and read all my friend’s blogs that I’ve been neglecting all week. I’m looking forward to all of it.
