Get (or Stay) Well with MinuteClinic

This is a sponsored post on behalf of MinuteClinic, but all opinions are my own.

WINTER IS COMING. The temperatures dropped a good 25 degrees almost overnight, I had to turn on the heat and my poor littlest ginger has her first cold of the season. I added “giant boxes of tissue” to my shopping list, since I’m pretty sure the snot levels between now and April are going to reach Defcon 1. With both kids in school – DIFFERENT schools, so two times the germs! – I’m pretty sure we’ll all end up sick at one point or another.

Ain’t nobody got time for that! Between the house and the kids and the picture-taking and the holidays and a husband who works 100 hours a week I decided getting a flu shot was at the very top of my to-do list for this month. The kids are required to have them by the state and E gets stabbed whether he wants to or not (property of the US Government and all) so I didn’t want to be the only one who ended up so sick I couldn’t move. Plus I spend a lot of time with other people’s infants, so I feel like it’s the responsible thing to do.

(Before you go linking me to that post about why getting the flu shot is actually worse for you than getting the flu, let me assure you I read it, researched it and made the decision that I believe in science, not opinions shared on Facebook or anecdotal evidence about how the year you got the flu shot was the ONLY year you every got the flu. I heart me some vaccines, the end.)

Thanks to my friends at MinuteClinic (no seriously, they’re awesome people and I totally think of them as friends) I had the chance to try out their lab services and get my shot at the same time. My CVS, the one I use and is almost walking distance from my house, doesn’t have a MinuteClinic yet, so I popped over to the one in Colchester. It takes about the same amount of time to get there as it would take me to drive down to base and the wait time (almost zero!) and ease of getting an appointment (just walk in!) make it waaaaay easier.

There’s a nifty little check-in kiosk so you don’t have to fill out a ton of paperwork and you can see how many people are already waiting ahead of you. My nurse practitioner was really nice and very helpful, with lots of knowledge about the specific vaccine they offer (the single dose, preservative free version, which is great) and what to do to avoid any soreness. Plus right now they’re offering a 20% off shopping pass when you get your flu shot! I might win the award for the most random assortment of objects purchased at one time.

Shot face. It really didn’t hurt much, and I only had a little soreness for 24 hours.

Lip gloss, nail polish, mascara, Rarity from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, wasabi nuts and pregnancy tests (because you can never have too many when you’re trying to get pregnant and 20% off is a good deal).

MinuteClinic does more than flu shots – they provide walk-in care for minor illnesses and injuries, sports and wellness physicals and can do lab tests for things like blood sugar and strep. It’s a weekend and your kid is sick but not SUPER sick? MinuteClinic! Not sure if that rash is an allergy or poison ivy? MinuteClinic! Don’t have insurance and don’t want to go to the ER? Services range from $79-$89 at MinuteClinic! They’re all staffed with nurse practitioners and physicians assistants and no appointment is needed, so when you get a UTI on a Saturday you don’t have to suffer until the doctor’s office opens on Monday. Brilliant, right?

Their website is super detailed and helpful regarding services, insurance and to find out if there’s one in your area. Check it out for more information! And thanks again to the awesome people at MinuteClinic for working with me.

Disclosure: My flu shot was provided as part of this post. MinuteClinic accepts most insurance plans but Tricare is weird, so it’s always best to call them before you go to make sure you don’t end up with an unexpected bill.

I definitely did not get a shopping pass with my flu shot – and ingot it at CVS, too! Weird.

Well that’s incredibly disappointing! My nurse had a whole pad of them, she just ripped one off and I was like “Oh, well, let’s go shopping then!”

Ahhh I need to get my flu shot, thanks for the reminder!

I made the doctor jab Niko with one when we went to figure out why he was super sick (SINUS INFECTION WTFFFFFFFFF). I hugely do not want to deal with a flu-sick 4 year old, especially since he has asthma and APPARENTLY is also a cough-puker. Poor kid.
