Wordless Wednesday: Mystic Lunch Date
The gingers and I had an impromptu lunch at Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream. Highly recommend. Apologies for the photo overload.

The picture of Evan with his tongue out is adorable. Do you mind sharing your camera settings and lens? Also, where was the sun? (Can you tell I think you take amazing pictures!!!)
Ok, I looked it up (digital files are SO COOL because they keep ALL the info):
f-stop: f/2.5
ISO: 800
Exposure: 1/4000
Taken with my D7000 and my 35mm lens
It was actually really, really sunny and mid-day (maybe around 1:30) so I was taking most of the photos in areas where I knew the kids faces would be in the shade (the hats definitely help with that!) My ISO is actually too high here, but I had been shooting in restaurant and didn’t take the time to change it before we went outside.
If you’re interested I could write a post on my photo-taking process, although it’s still at least 50% luck at this point. Or maybe I’ll just send you an email, since I don’t want anyone thinking I’m trying to give actual photography advice.
I think a lot of people would love a post on it but I would welcome an email as well! I just think you do such a good job with pictures without staging it and being “fussy”.
That settles it. I need to spend more time in the more picturesque areas of my neck of the woods.
I feel like practically everywhere we go is picturesque. One of the major advantages of New England.
I also live in New England. I’m just really lazy about going anywhere that isn’t walking distance away!
For a while, I used to spend nearly every weekend at Mystic. It’s such a beautiful place. I’d take the Amtrak down there on a Saturday, bring a couple books with me, & read on one of the chairs by the really expensive seafood restaurant.
I loved going in that store–I forget the name–that sold the little boxes where you’d have to tap ’em a specific way a couple times to get the lid to open. They sold really elaborate ones, too. I remember ones that were like dinosaurs or something, & you’d have to take them apart to access the hidey hole inside. Do they still sell them? (This was about 5-6 years ago, so…)
I’m not sure which store has the boxes! There are actually three or four places you could be talking about, that sell really cool off-beat stuff like that. The only one that went out of business is the nautical stuff store. I promise I’ll ask around for hidey hole boxes next time we go down though, since that sounds really cool!
I just google mapped the area, & I believe the store I’m talking about is called The Company of Craftsmen. It’s next to the army surplus store. Is it still there?
These are so beautiful! I need to come visit.
You take your kids out to eat about 99% more than I have ever dared. I should probably be braver.
Evan’s hat is awesome! Great pictures!
