Last week I went to Ulta and spent a bunch of money on makeup. I haven’t bought real makeup in a really, really long time and I don’t think I’ve ever bought all the things the sales girl recommended. Because it’s really expensive. But I’ve been feeling really old (even with blue hair) and I’ve been super unhappy when I look in the mirror, so spending a little (a lot) to feel better seemed reasonable. And you know what? My selfie ratio has gone way, way up and when I walked past a mirror today I was surprised to see someone who looked so happy. I think it was money well spent. Please enjoy a lot of selfies this week.
Sunday:
Beautiful morning in our postcard downtown
Caroline loves church because a) coloring and b) coffee hour
Cotton candy sky
Monday:
His favorite spot is on my back, even when I’m not wearing him
Totally normal grocery shopping
Sleeping like a posed newborn baby
Tuesday:
The sun starts to set before the bus even comes
This coat was an excellent purchase
Waving at the big girl ballerinas
Wednesday:
Nursing, sleeping baby in Target
Even the filler paper from Shop Sweet Lulu was fun
Stars in his eyes
Thursday:
So November
They asked me to take this photo
Birthday invites from Jumping Jax Designs come with goodies
Friday:
Baby sword fights seem like a wise choice
This weather can stay
No nap baby can’t stay awake when he’s wrapped
Saturday:
Raking is the worst
That house is called Greene Gables. They’re not green and it’s pretty abandonded, but I was still pretty excited.
Pile of gravel + waterfall = best day for a 6 year old

Once again I DID a lot more stuff than my photos show. When I have my big girl camera with me I have a hard time remembering to use my phone to also take photos so you get a lot of babywearing selfies in this post.
Sunday:
When you are a grumpy mess by 7 am, you get to hold your blankie even when you’re wrapped
Monkey see, monkey do
Caroline looks like she’s about to fly right off that swing
Monday:
Airplane watching
He rode the whole way in the stroller, but is too tired to walk 10 steps to the car
They have a case of the Monday’s
Tuesday:
That’s a really brave fishing spot
Little boy in the big woods
He really, really loves my wallet?
Wednesday:
His first time ever in the mall playground, poor deprived child
WATCH OUT IT’S A BOUNTY HUNTER
We’ve been eating a lot of pasta salad
Thursday:
He’s not a huge selfie fan
STILL NOT A FAN
Sqeeeeeezing out one more beach day
Friday:
He loves traffic
Editing is fun again, because I get to do it kid-free during nap time
AND I can edit while watching EXCELLENT MOVIES
Saturday:
He kept trying to play peek-a-boo behind the chain link.
OH GOODY WE’RE DOING SOCCER AGAIN
She wouldn’t even let me wash it off before bed
This week is our first full week with EVERYTHING: Judo, ballet, swim and soccer. It’s good and bad. I like keeping the kids really busy even in after-school hours because if they’re doing an activity then they’re not staring at the ipad or the tv. But when they get really tired they’re walking time bombs of tears and disappointment. We’re still working on the balance, especially because our weekends have also been really full. Maybe once the weather isn’t so fantastic we’ll stay inside and all take naps on Saturdays.

First full week of school, last weekend of the summer. The transition is going as well as I can expect, which is to say the kids are taking turns being COMPLETLY exhausted and having breakdowns. And Linc thinks he’s suddenly grown.
Sunday:
PUMPKIN SPICE ATTACK
Babywearing runs in the family
Big kid doing big kid stuff
Monday:
Driving the playscape
Don’t look so judgy baby, it’s just a liquor store run.
Climber
Tuesday:
Apparently he’s allergic to…something? I think it’s the baby wipes.
School is EXHAUSTING
He’s obsessed
Wednesday:
I tried wearing lipstick. Linc thinks it’s a mistake. I think I agree.
OMG GUISE THIS BRIDGE THING BOUNCES
I joked that he was going to sleep in her bed and she was not amused
Thursday:
Jogging! For like, 4 seconds. But I want credit.
Connecticut ends here
I’M TRAPPED IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION
Friday:
His new favorite spot
Niantic is adorable
The kids were super excited about the babywearing in this book.
Saturday:
Apparently no one else wanted to spend a gorgeous Saturday at the lake. Idiots.
I brought all the car wraps in to wash them. Such a pretty pile.
So I guess he’s just big now.
We have one last #lakelife day tomorrow as long as Evan doesn’t sleep the entire day. Or I do. 8 hours of sleep would be a dream come true and because Linc didn’t get ANY nap today I have my fingers crossed he’ll let me sleep in. Our fall activity schedule starts this week and then goes into full crazy mode next week so I need as much rest as I can get. I’m already reminding myself that I did this to myself and it won’t last forever. I suspect in the spring we’ll sign up for exactly zero things to recover.

The kids went back to school this week, which mean my photos are going to be Linc-heavy for next…forever.
Sunday:
SO READY
Grocery store assistant
High chair? Why would I need a high chair?
Monday:
Where am I?! What year is this???
Preparing for her show
I bleach shampooed my hair. I’ll do a real post about it but the short review is A++
Tuesday:
Babies are hilarious
Evan agrees. Babies, man.
How we got through Back to School night
Wednesday:
First day of school! BUH-BYE!
A rainbow wrap and a pink truck. MY KID IS DOOOOOOMED.
The Book Barn is my new favorite
Thursday:
Aquarium playdate
IT’S SO QUIET
Starting her young
Friday:
Waving bye-bye to the bus is super fun
Living the toddler dream
Fair Life
Saturday:
I’m not sure we brought enough watermelon
He’s going to miss eating sand SO MUCH
Blankets are pretty much his favorite thing in the whole world
I am SO happy to have the kids back at school, even though school brings a whole new level of stress and deadlines and homework and one zillion pieces of paper that need my attention. They need the structure of school and the friends and the break from me (and my often short temper) right now. I figure by Christmas we’ll all be super excited to hang out together again. Right now I’m just going to enjoy the crap out of my one tiny baby who can’t talk back.
And if I say “Christmas” again before December, please punch me in the face.

Happy Mother’s Day, internet! I planted my traditional flower pots and vegetables. The flowers will traditionally look beautiful on the front steps and the vegetables will traditionally die before I ever see a single tomato or eggplant. But I wouldn’t want to stop planting them. It’s tradition.
Sunday:
Super sunny soccer game
I told them not to try chasing it.
So happy to be OUTSIDE
Bonus Sunday picture: Caroline goes “LOOK, ITS BABY LINC!”
Monday:
Playing Star Wars…
Watching Star Wars…
Wearing Star Wars. May the Fourth!
Tuesday:
Still recovering from doing ALL THE THINGS over the weekend
We are becoming experts at this back wrapping thing
This is the face he makes when he sees Caroline get off the bus
Wednesday:
These are my ridiculous new pants. I love them. I wore them to the dentist.
Sweaty nap head
Taking a walk down by the river
Thursday:
Doesn’t everyone eat their cheerios in the doorway?
Clingy McClingerson
The filthiest child
Friday:
Sleepy snuggles
She wasn’t happy about the bib, but that was already her third outfit of the day
The family that slides together, ends up in a big pile of crying children together.
Saturday:
You can’t tell, but he’s crying. Because some of his Cheerios fell on the floor. Because he threw them there.
Somehow, she did not fall in.
That is not the face of a healthy child. Poor baby had fifths disease (we think) but once you get the rash you’re not contagious anymore.
I really wanted to get a picture of myself with the kids for Mother’s Day, but that didn’t happen. There were too many meltdowns, too many dirty faces, too many things to do, too many kids to wrangle. But while we were making s’mores for dinner both Evan and Caroline said THEY were having the best day ever, so at least the kids enjoyed their day. If that’s not basically what motherhood breaks down to then I don’t know what it.
