Diaper Bag Show-and-Tell

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

I’ve seen this meme floating around the interwebs for almost as long as I’ve been reading blogs, but this week I’m going to hop on the bandwagon and join Audrey‘s hop. I’m doing it for several reasons including a) the kids are being really good and no one wants to read a bazillion posts about angelic, adorable, well-behaved children b) I’ve rededicated myself to CLEANING ALL THE THINGS on a regular basis so I have less time to write my usual deep, meaningful posts (bahahaha) and c) I like reading what people ACTUALLY keep in the handbags as opposed to posts with titles like “15 Things A Good Mother Is Never Without In Case Of Bear Attacks” or “The 7 Things In Your Diaper Bag That Might Kill You”. I could totally picture both of those headlines on Babble, amiright? But today, you just get “Junk That Suzanne Hauls Around For No Reason”.

This is the bag I’ve been carrying for a few months now. It’s a Gussy, which I fully admit I bought because I wanted to check that box off in Mommy Blogger Bingo (other boxes: headband/DSLR/Epiphanie camera bag/Lisa Leonard jewelry/rosettes/Toms shoes) but it’s actually a REALLY great bag. It holds a ton of stuff (see below), it stays on my shoulder, I can fit my camera in it, and things rarely fall out – which was a HUGE problem with my last bag. Oh God, I re-read that post and my palms are all sweaty just remembering my panic.

And here’s what’s inside the bag:

I sorted it into categories! In a vague columns left-to-right manner I present to you…

Clothing/accessories:
Caroline’s fox hat
Evan’s dinosaur hat
My glasses
Backup sunglasses (my real ones were on my head when I took this pic)
Two and a half pairs of soft-soled baby shoes
Caroline’s sun hat
Caroline’s socks
Baby Legs
Flower headband
Workout headband for me
Two pairs toddler underpants
Extra pants for Caroline
Evan’s striped sweatshirt he took off during gymnastics

Essentials:
Pen
Wallet
Change
iPhone
Keys

Random:
Sunscreen
Amber teething necklace
Yarn cutter
Gum
Lens cap for my 50mm
Lip gloss/sunscreen
Gussy business cards (for when people ask about the bag)
Reusable coffee cup coozie from Emily

Baby Essentials:
Diaper clutch from Erika
Wipes case

Toys:
Boat
Helicopter from the train table
Truck
Ladybug we stole from someone
Vibrating grape teether (both kids LOVE this when their gums hurt)

Trash:
I’m surprised there wasn’t more.

Food:
Reusable snack bag of Wheat Thins
Snack trap with carrots
Mini-bagel
String cheese
Four granola bars
Emergency bribery Hershey’s kisses
(The kids had just taken their sippy cups out, or those would be in there too)

And THAT is just what I packed for the 12 minutes round-trip drive to a 45 minute gymnastics class. You should see the bag on Stroller Strides days or trips to the Seaport. It’s amazing I’m not permanently lopsided (although there’s still plenty of time for that to happen).

You totally think I’m a crazy person now, don’t you? OK, what’s in YOUR bag?

p.s. I had to put the kit lens on my camera to take that picture of all the stuff AND I stood on the counter and held the camera up as high as I could. If I wasn’t a total moron I would have taken my shoes off, but ALAS.

Easter Fashion Flashback Linky!

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

I sort of hope my sister is currently in the part of Africa that doesn’t have an internet connection, because she’s going to think I am intentionally posting bad pictures of her on the internet. The truth is ALL the childhood pictures of her are bad. See? Not my fault! Much better! Apparently she did not like being told to pose, while I was practicing smiling with my eyes by the time I was 4. That comes as a surprise to absolutely no one who knows us.

And now, a brief history of Easters Past in the Glidden Household:

1987? 88?

I suspect I had white patent leather shoes, a matching purse and possible a pair of gloves to go with this outfit. I also suspect we lived in Long Island and it was 30 degrees on Easter. My folks still have that clock.

Awkwardly posed photo is awkward. It looks like I’ve Instagramed this photo but I assure you it came by its faded, aged look honestly. If Instagram wants to steal that specific yellow tone they could call it “Shoebox”.

Hey, remember when you had to take pictures with film you then had to have developed at a store and sometimes people screwed up your photos? If you say “no, I’ve always used digital” we can’t be friends anymore. I am not sure why my mom dressed Drew in a football sweatshirt for Easter, but I’m sure Jesus understood it was meant as a compliment. The dress I am wearing in this photo is in Caroline’s closet upstairs.

April 1993, which makes me 11

PROOF I WAS WEARING MILK-MAID BRAIDS BEFORE THEY WERE COOL TAKE THAT HIPSTERS. I thought that dress was the bee’s knees. I remember thinking the only thing that could possibly make me look any cooler was pierced earrings and how it was SO UNFAIR my mom wouldn’t let me get my ears pierced until I was 13.  The piano in the background is the one I have now in my dining room.

I sort of suspect frilly dresses and bonnets and flowers tucked into braids weren’t on everyone’s Easter to-do list so Amy and I might be the only two joining this linky, but if you can track down your spring-type pictures please feel free! We’ll leave it open for a week.

Easter Fashion Flashback

Friday, March 9th, 2012

My best internet friend Amy and I had such a good time checking out everyone’s childhood Halloween costumes we decided to do another vintage link-up for Easter. Did you wear white patent leather shoes? Did you insist on a spring dress even though it was freezing cold? Were you a fan of the traditional Easter bonnet? Did your mother dress you up as a bunny? (PLEASE, someone, share that picture!)

Matching dresses and bonnets. Doesn't my sister look THRILLED?

We’ll be posting photos of our best Easter outfits on April 2nd and will leave the linky open until the Monday after Easter, so you have plenty of time to track down your old albums or ask your mom to drag them out of the attic. I hope you’ll join us!

Vintage Halloween Link-Up on Friday!

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

Halloween, 1993

I’m the one in the fabulous vintage dress, leopard hat and real fur stole – all of which I bought at a yard sale. PROOF I was thrifting WAY before it was cool. My costume is “movie star”. My elementary school BFF is Tiger Lily, my little sister is Alice in Wonderland and my brother is the fire fighter and also dying of embarrassment I just posted this picture of him on the internet.

I bet you have a picture just like this in a photo album somewhere too.

Amy from BabyBabyLemon and I are hosting a linky on Friday for all your vintage Halloween cuteness – costumes, pumpkin carving, hayrides, whatevs. Call your mom tomorrow and see if she’ll scan in some photos you KNOW she’s got in that album on the bottom shelf. (Confidential to my mom: Can you see if there are any more Halloween costume pics in those albums on the bottom shelf? Love you!) Bonus points for the first person in a cardboard box-turned robot costume.

See you Friday!

p.s. If you want to participate but don’t have a blog, I’d be happy to post your photo here. Just email it to bebehblog@gmail.com.

My Week(6) in iPhone Photos

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

I didn’t do very well this week and the pics I did take are a little boring. But to be fair, how many pictures of the inside of a hospital room can you take? Especially when your iPhone is dead? At least I got the kid looking cute in a couple.

Sunday:

My in-laws brought us this box full of homemade jam & pie filling. Then we used it as a baby race car. Wins for everyone!!

We discovered the trick to a peaceful meal is a kid's cup of lemonade served with a straw. Small price to pay to avoid a bottle of ketchup to the face.

Monday:

This is the cutest I've looked in WEEKS. Headband by Uff Da, knit shrug made by me, (non-maternity) shirt from Target, adorable toddler crashing my picture also by me.

E's sudden panic!! over yardwork led to some raking in the dark. At least it was warm.

Wednesday:

Hospital lunch. I have no idea what was even in there - it appeared and disappeared while I was too sick to even THINK about food.

Thursday:

Saddest family Thanksgiving picture ever.

Friday:

You can tell I was feeling better because I could actually SIT UP enough to knit, even hooked to an IV.

Saturday:

So good to be home & back to normal toddler mornings: milk, peanut butter and a football to cuddle while we watch the Today Show.

Apparently the "insanely busy" Christmas shopping season forgot about the day after the day after Thanksgiving. Scored those luggage sets Macy's has been advertising all week and discovered rolling carry-ons are Little Evan's favorite toy EVER.

Link up with the hop below and go to Amy’s blog to get your own HTML code so it shows on your own post. It doesn’t have to be iPhone photos, just camera phone/snapshots of your week!
