Happy Saturday

Today E is competing in a iron man hockey tournament, which means he’s basically getting the crap beat out of him for fun. Men. It also means I won’t be taking any long leisurely naps to make up for the hours I spent tossing and turning (and much, much worse) as punishment for eating WAY TOO MUCH delicious food at girl’s night last night because I’m going to be child-minding and/or bandaging bleeding head wounds. I know you’re so jealous.

So between begging the toddler to stop kicking me in the face and begging the baby to stop kicking me in the liver, I could use some happy today. Here are some things that fit the bill:

I have NO PROBLEM admitting my taste in music leans heavily on whatever the Top 40 station tells me to like (also known as: songs likely to be covers by the cast of Glee). And I think Sara Bareilles fits easily into that category. ASK ME IF I CARE. This song is awesome wrapped in fantastic coated in chocolate. I dare you to not find yourself singing it in the car.

E really likes t-shirts that say stuff on them, which can be both hilarious and horrible. For example, “The first rule of computer club is that you don’t talk about computer club” is funny. “Hey Princess, Bring Me a Beer” is not (<—— ACTUAL SHIRT HE OWNS). Neither are the various candy slogans-turned-innuendo – “How many licks does it take?” OH HAHAHAHA I GET WHAT YOU DID THERE.  So I encourage the hilarious by buying him the shirts myself.

When we were cleaning out the closets, he found these two in the bottom:

(Warner: Movie spoilers below. Although if you STILL don’t know that Bruce Willis is a ghost, I have no sympathy for you.) (p.s. At the end of Titanic, the boat sinks.)

"The mission wasn't impossible" makes me LOL every time

Best part of the shirts: can you name all the movies?

—————–

As I may have mentioned previously, I read a LOT of blogs. And a big portion of those blogs are other moms who mostly just write stuff. They aren’t fancy or sponsored or professional photographers, but I enjoy every single one of their posts. They’re the kind of writers where I WANT to comment on what they say, rather than feeling like I have to and they post because they WANT to, not because they have to. But just like ANY blogger, I’m sure they’d love more readers.* So check these ladies out**:

1.Planet Hausfrau – Audrey is now the mom of 2, a boy and a girl, both just a few months ahead of my own. There are a zillion reasons I like her, but I think a lot of it boils down to her honesty and frankness when she’s writing about anything from growing vegetables to VBACs.

2. And Then There Were Four – I honestly can’t even remember how I stumbled across Natalie, but I’ve been reading every post (and most of her archives) since I was pregnant. She just…writes. I love it.

3. Now Showing! – Again, I’ve been reading for so long I don’t remember how I started, but I’m pretty sure Brigid falls in the same category as Holly (A Baby Grows in Brooklyn) and Amy (BabyBabyLemon) which is “people I know from a previous life where I spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME arguing about reality tv shows and feminism on a popular women’s blog”. Brigid is irreverent, honest and funny, and I often find myself trying to write more like her.

4. Tin Roof, Rusted – I KNOW I know Leah from my time on the above mentioned website and she is the first blog in my old “Mom blogs” bookmark folder. Her son is a genius named after a hockey trophy and I’m pleased as punch she is expecting her second baby right now. Every post is LOL funny.

5. Life V. 2.0 – TMae is a lovely blog friend who has supported me here on bebehblog since the beginning and now has her own little corner of the internet. She is smart and funny and a good combination of cute baby pics and deep thoughts.

*I am under no delusions that my link here will cause a sudden spike in anyone’s traffic. I am not big-time by any means. I’m barely even small time. I just wanted to show some love.

**I almost never do lists like this because I always feel like I’m hurting someone’s feelings if I leave them off, but please know I still love you and your blog too. These are just people I’ve read in the past few days who made me think “More people should read this!”

And now I’m off to watch some hockey and check Goodwill for a lamp I can use in the new nursery. Not necessarily in that order. Happy Saturday!!

My favorite part about King Of Anything is that she’s now 2 for 2 with big hits …. that are big FUs to the music industry. She’s both rebelling, and buying in. And it cracks me up.

And three cheers to the shirts for having Firefly! (Or Serenity? I’ve lost track of where it happens) That show/movie doesn’t get enough love.

What ARE all the movies? The ones I don’t know sound interesting! (Crying woman? What?)

    • bebehblog says:

I think I bought both shirts specifically for “Wash Dies”. Just because every time I even think about it I want to both cry and watch the movie again.

And The Crying Game is the actual name of the movie – there’s a woman who is actually a man. That’s the big twist. To be honest though, I only know that from pop culture, not because I saw it.

      • Audrey says:

I love pointing out that the big evil alien RA from StarGate (the movie) is the actor who played the man/woman in The Crying Game. He’s sooo pretty!

      • brigidkeely says:

Did I tell you my “Wash Dies” story? Fret not! I’m going to tell it to you again.

We saw it in the theater! Someone told me that Wash dies! There was a near miss and I was all OH WELL OBVIOUSLY THAT WAS WRONG INFORMA…OH FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF and then I started crying and basically cried through THE ENTIRE REST OF THE MOVIE. And the way home. I was very teary! So we decided to rent a movie that didn’t involve a main character dying. We rented “A Knight’s Tale” which… has Alan Tudyk in it, who played Wash, and I cried again. Because I’m like that. NOW DO YOU SEE WHY I SOBBED OVER DALELKS WHILE PREGNANT.

  2. I love the shirts. And can name most of the movies. And as an old fogie who saw The Crying Game in the theater, I can tell you that you aren’t missing much. Boring.

Also, I’ve pretty much drank the bebehblog koolaid, because I just added the four of those blogs that I wasn’t reading to my reader with out even checking them out first.

    • FourInchHeels says:

Excellent – I was about to add it to my Netflix queue. Are there any other movies on those shirts that I should also not add to the queue?

  3. TMae says:

Thanks for the love. :-) I like that Sara Bareilles song, though if it doesn’t come out of heavy radio rotation, I’m gonna start to hate it. Like that Ray LaMontagne song. That’s on EVERY TIME I GET IN THE CAR.

  4. brigidkeely says:

Aw BB ILU2. I started reading (and commenting) because MKP linked me to you.

Most of our t-shirts are from webcomics. *coughnerdcough*

My current music rotation includes Goldfrappe, DragonForce, the Decemberists, and Apocolyptica.

    • bebehblog says:

Ooooh, you know MKP? She rocks my socks. And she IS an old Jez friend, although at this point if she moved into my guest bedroom I’d be like “Oh, hai, have some waffles and don’t mind my total lack of pants.”

      • brigidkeely says:

MKP and I are ~livejournal friends~ oooooooh. I’ve been reading her so long I have no idea when/why I started, but I think we have LJ friends in common and I saw her leaving thoughtful, intelligent, funny comments on other peoples’ journals and so checked out her own journal.

  5. A. I have gotten SO used to patching hockey injuries, the last time Bruce had to get stitches the nurse asked me if I was one too.

    B. I can name almost all of the movies but I would not have known the Wash one without the comments and I have no idea who Henri Ducard is.

    C. THANK YOU! Now I feel compelled to write something instead of watching the end of Maverick. If you think your taste in music is bad, mine in movies has got to be worse.

    • bebehblog says:

      B. It’s Liam Neeson in the new Batman (The Dark Knight). Which I’m sure you DID know, you just didn’t know the names.

Now, if you didn’t know the Keyser Soze one, we might not be friends anymore.

      • FourInchHeels says:

I almost didn’t know the Keyser Soze one, but only because I didn’t know his character’s name, and never would have guessed that’s how either Keyser or Soze were spelled …. so it took me a while to sound out the words.

Also, how come the 6th Sense one is with the actor’s name, and the rest are with character names? What’s that!

        • brigidkeely says:

Well, there’s also “Russel Crowe is crazy and his best friend is imaginary,” which is the actor name and not character name, unless there’s something about Russel Crowe I don’t know.

  6. jill says:

ive never even heard that song! im so out of touch with whats cool lately! and those shirts are so much more than awesome! i dont know them all but IM SURE my husband would. i’ll have to put him to the test…and thanks for the new reads. its crazy how many mama blogs are out there!

  7. Amanda says:

I totally heard that song in the bathroom at Red Robin this evening! Very catchy.

  8. I’m excited to check these out!! (yet angry with you for forcing me to spend so much time on the internet by being so flipping entertaining!)

  9. Natalie says:

Okay, so I think the internets ate my original comment.

Basically it said: My husband wears those types of shirts too…we should start a club :o) And I recounted how he wore a shirt depicting Steve from Blue’s clues dead with little paw print clues everywhere to our daughter’s third birthday party…(yes he did, I swear).

“Mama, why is Steve laying on the ground? Is he sleepy?”

Plus I love you even more for the Wash reference…I cry every single time. And gasp in surprise. Every.single.time.

Finally: Thank you for the sweet words :o) I appreciate that someone else out there finds my writing tolerable. ha!

Those shirts remind me of this one: http://www.threadless.com/product/844/Spoilt/tab,guys

I bought that one for James one Christmas, along with a bunch of others I thought were witty. If E likes shirts with sayings, he’ll love that site.

  11. Veronica says:

Thanks for sharing. I LOVE posts like these. Always enjoy a recommendation from a blogger that I follow and like.

  12. Veronica says:

Hmmm are you referring to Jezebel on #3 ?I am soooo curious

    • bebehblog says:

Yup, that’s the one. I’d say 60% of my internet friends (and 100% of my original readers) came from Jezebel. I fall (fell) somewhere between being old-school-everyone-should-be-funny-all-the-time and just-proud-enough-of-my-star-commenter-status-to-feel-special.
