Girl Names, Round 2

See round 1 here – I’ve officially crossed off Clementine but nothing else is definite.

Gemma Louise
Caroline Louisa
Piper Mae
Piper Corinne
Corinne Mae
Louisa Mae
Ruby Mae
Lizette (I just saw this somewhere and think it is SO CUTE)

I was shocked to learn E thinks Piper is adorable and awesome. He says no to Gemma and probably Ruby though. I just haven’t asked, since he usually says no to everything and it’s crushing my soul. I am soulless.

ARGH. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO DECIDE? And why can’t I stop reading baby name suggestions on the internet? This would be so much easier if I only had two dozen names to choose from instead of two BILLION.

I’m totally just naming her Baby Girl Davis. If it’s a girl. Which it’s not. So it doesn’t matter.

JUST LEAVE ME ALOOOOOOONE.

(Ultrasound tomorrow at 1:30 pm. I promise my hysterics will officially be over then.)

I like Gemma and Piper! So cute. What have the heart rates been at your other appointments?

  2. Amy says:

What happened to Claire? She got removed from the list too!

Caroline Louisa is such a pretty name.

  3. TMae says:

OMG, I LOVE Piper Mae! And Louisa Mae – but I have an author bias, and well…a Mae bias. :-)

  4. StraderSpiel says:

    I LOVE Piper. So cute!

  5. barbra says:

I vote for Baby Girl! nickname: B.G.!! :) I seriously went to middle school with a girl nicknamed B.B. Her given name was “Beautiful Black Daughter Given to Me”. She was a great girl, and her nickname fit perfectly.
In all seriousness, I get the hysterics. We just went through it a month ago. The day of was the worst. I had to (pretend to) work until 1:30pm. And then it was magical – not just finding out the gender but seeing my baby’s balled up fist on the screen. my husband’s reaction to seeing our baby. just incredible. I was on cloud nine for a couple of days. We both were. And we savored it for a couple of hours before we shared, even though we knew people were on pins and needles waiting to hear from us.
I do love Piper and Ruby. I like Louisa too, it’s very classy, pretty and timeless.

  6. Donavon says:

For the longest time, my birth certificate read “Baby Girl Wagner”. I was in the hospital for 4 weeks b/c I was premature, and yes, 4 weeks later my parents still could not decide on a name for me, even after extreme pressure from the doctors and nurses. They had originally wanted to name me Susan or Clover (thank you God for my parents not naming me Clover), but when I came out I didn’t look like either of those. So at about 6 weeks, they finally named me…Donavon….after a stripper at my dad’s bestfriend’s bachelor party. True story. I had my birth certificate changed when I was in elementary school. : )

    • bebehblog says:

I wish you had told me that story when we were in fourth grade because I spent a good deal of time in elementary school being SUPER-DUPER JEALOUS of your awesome name. Although it’s probably good you didn’t, since fourth graders are mean. I still think Donavon is really cool!

  7. Amy says:

Also, my niece is named Piper and she is quite a pistol (as my Grandmother would have said). Cute name though.

  8. My mom was the youngest of 6 and arrived after 4 boys in a row. Her parents were fully expecting a boy and were stumped for a name when she turned out to be a girl. Her name on her birth certificate was just Girl. Not Baby Girl. She found out when she went to get married and needed her b.c. for the marriage license. She was still mad about it 30 yrs later.

  9. MKP says:

Caroline and Louisa are both featured in Jane Austen novels (P&P and Persuasion, respectively), and neither was a particularly exemplary specimen of awesome. I really love Piper, though Piper Corinne takes me straight to “Politically Correct”

I love gemstone names in general, and Ruby is prolly the classiest of them (though I also like Opal…Opal Davis sounds like a lounge singer) I once knew a sweet set of twins named Benny and Ruby.

  10. Emmie Bee says:

I LOVE Gemma Ruby & Lizette. All were on my girl’s list at one point of another. In fact my 15 year old journal of baby names totally contains Lizette AND Ruby. Because At 15 I was naming unborn children.

  11. Audrey says:

You know, I’ve loved Piper ever since that darned Charmed show was on. Piper is a sweet name. It’s sassy. Although if you have a girl and name her Louisa Mae..she and Delilah Jeanne will have to meet so they can have awesome southern belle play dates.

  12. raincheckmom says:

I did not know Piper was on a recent show! I only remember Piper from the actress Piper Laurie…which really dates me….

  13. Natalie says:

I love Piper! But, seeing as my last name is Porter, I couldn’t do that to a kid. I also like Corrine, so those two names together sound nice to my ears. Whenever I hear Lousia I think of Little Women AND that episode of Friends when Marcelle runs away and the Animal control worker is a girl from their high school and Rachel says “LOUISA!” Like she knows her. Sorry for the tangent, but I find most things in my life can be linked to a Friends reference. :o) Good luck tomorrow!

  14. erniebufflo says:

I like Gemma and Caroline. Piper is a no-go for me because it’s the name of a Palin.

    • bebehblog says:

I keep forgetting about that Piper. I better hope it’s a boy since E came home today and declared we were using Piper Mae, no more debating!

      • Other Erin says:

Eh. There is also a Palin named Sarah but I doubt people who dislike her will stop using that name altogether. If you use the logic that since Palin didn’t you shouldn’t, you really shouldn’t name your child anything unique at all – stick with Jennifer or Emily or Jane. If you really look, you can always find someone you don’t like with a name you do. If people didn’t reuse the names of anyone who was ever annoying, no one would have a name at all.

  15. lalaland13 says:

I did like the name Piper, until some chick named Sarah Palin came along and amidst the Tracks and Bristols, had a kid named Piper. Now I consider it a pretty name, but an unfortunate Sign of the Beast.

Have you had any dreams about giving birth to a boy or girl? Supposedly motherly dreams are very accurate. Supposedly.

I feel like I should make some sort of prediction about the sex, but I just don’t know.

    • When I was preggo I was convinced it was a boy, and the night before our ultrasound I was having dreams about snakes and my husband was like “BOY” but then we found out it was a girl. Go figure!

    • bebehblog says:

I had a really really vivid dream this week that it was a boy. I also gave birth to him while watching TV, about a minute after getting to the hospital and with no pain whatsoever. I’ll take it.

      • lalaland13 says:

Hmm. Then maybe it is a boy. OK, based solely on that, I’ll lean boy tomorrow (watch it be a girl). And tell E the decision isn’t final until you say it is. However, if you say it’s Piper Mae, I’m sure she won’t be evil. And you can get her some shirts with a pictured of a pie on it because then she’d be the Pied Piper (ducks tomatoes). Seriously, I think associating a baby with pie is awesome. I know a girl who had a boy named Oliver, and he has shirts with a pic of an olive, then “r.”

      • Amy says:

I had multiple vivid dreams that I was having a boy and she ended up being a girl, so maybe maternal instinct tells you the opposite of what you are having?

    • Audrey says:

“Now I consider it a pretty name, but an unfortunate Sign of the Beast.”

      Lol!!!

  16. I really love Ruby and Lizette. And for the record of betting on the sex of your baby, I am sticking with GIRL. Can’t wait till you find out!

  17. raincheckmom says:

I was totally oblivious to the Palin connection to Piper…that does tarnish the name a bit…

  18. metta1313 says:

We were 98% sure on a girls name before my daughter was born, but then when we saw her we knew it ha to be different. Oh, and I like Corrine and Gemma.

  19. Swistle says:

I like Clementine as a middle name. Ruby Clementine, for example.

  20. I wanted to add that I love love love Lizette. It sounds SO GOOD with Davis and it sounds really good with Suzanne. Lots of Z’s. as in “Hi, I am Suzanne and this is my daughter Lizette.” Suzanne and Lizette Davis” “Lizzy Davis” LOVE IT!!!

  21. I also wanted to remind you about Rocks, Months and Seasons. I think you know what I mean here (looks sideways and winks).

  22. and Piper reminds me of a bird AND the guy I used to work with who let his child pee in my bed at a party when I was out of town and then left it there. Just thought I would mention that.

  23. I really love the name Piper. Its so cute and I haven’t really heard it be overused. I also really like Lizette. They could be used together…Piper Lizette Davis…I love it!

  24. Michelle says:

My daughters middle name is Lisette, I named her after my great-great grandmother. I love that it means little Elizabeth. Sometimes I wish I was a little more daring and actually used it as her first name, however I think Emily Lisette has a really nice flow :0)
