Everyday Face By e.l.f.

This is my face right before I leave the house most mornings:

Tooth-brushing toddler usually changes into real clothes before we go.

In the summer, my entire routine was moisturizer under my eyes, mascara, done. In the past few weeks I added a little tinted moisturizer to even out some sun spots but the craziest I EVER get is eye shadow. No blush, no bronzer, no eyeliner, never any lipstick. I mean, if I’m not even bothering to brush and dry my hair before heading to Target I’m definitely not spending more than 30 seconds on my face.

But with the cooler weather here and a 3-times a week preschool drop off (There are people there! Who look at me! And who I might have to talk to!) I need to make sure I don’t look like an exhausted ghost. Although I still don’t want to spend more than 30 seconds. Maybe 3 minutes, tops.

And then Collective Bias was like “Hey, want some cash to buy new e.l.f. makeup?” and I was all “Whoa, are you guys in my brain?” and they were like “But you have to go buy it at Target” and I was like “DUH.”

Mommy-daughter Target date? Yes please!

Can we talk about e.l.f. for a minute? Am I the last person on the planet to figure out it is a cute brand with nice stuff at a super inexpensive price point? Like, I checked with someone working in the next aisle to make sure this eyelash curler wasn’t priced incorrectly:

I am hoping that dollar I spent gives me lashes like hers.

Everything was priced between $1 and $6 with most things falling in the $1-$3 range. I went a little crazy when I realized how much stuff I could get without feeling guilty. I even picked up new brushes and eye shadow applicators, which I haven’t bought in YEARS.

Eyes stuff on the left, face stuff at the top right, lip stuff on the bottom right.

When I got to the car I tried on the Lip Balm with SPF 15 immediately. It was surprisingly minty and a great, subtle color on my pale, no-makeup face. I think it went really well with my large iced coffee.

Pardon my giant nostrils.

After I got home I played with more of the products. I’m pretty excited about that eyelash curler, but my entire face plan (starting today!) is: moisturizer, under-eye concealer, a little brown eye-liner, curl my lashes, mascara, an all-over powder to keep me from getting too shiny and then a little pink face-stick to make me shiny in the right places. I’ll add one of the two subtle lip colors on most days and the deep red matte lipstick on days I’m feeling fancy and/or want to start rumors among the preschool moms.

Now if you see me at preschool drop off, I’ll be the one who looks like she gives a crap. Or just remember this face:

e.l.f. products I’m wearing: Pigment Eyeshadow in Naturally Nude, Clarifying Pressed Powder in Ivory, Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter in Light/Glow, All Over Color Stick in Persimmon and Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Perfect Pink.

Although after I bought my new makeup I splurged on new yoga pants, so don’t expect too much.

You can see more photos from our morning shopping for e.l.f. in my Google+ album. And you can find out more about e.l.f. products, specials and news on their Facebook page or by following them on Twitter. Their hashtag is: #eyeslipsface.

Do you have an everyday face routine? Is it as basic as my summer face or are you one of those people who actually knows how to wear eyeliner correctly?

I’ve got a one-two punch of “extremely cheap” and “extremely lazy” topped with a generous helping of “super sensitive skin” so my “skin care routine” consists of using a mild soap, an anti-microbial cleanser when I’m having an issue, and that’s it. I don’t even use sunscreen because the kinds I’ve tried, including the hypoallergenic noncomedogenic guaranteed not to clog pores clogs up my pores and then I’m an acre of white heads for a month or so after. It is pretty ugly.

I was heading out to a wedding shower the other day so I stopped at a drugstore to get some hair spray (because I don’t own any) and then I saw that all the hairspray was $15-20 and I just threw up my hands and left the store.

I do have a little make up bag for when I’m feelin’ fancy, and that contains a green and brown eye shadow palette, eyeliner, and dark brown mascara, a wooden comb, fairly neutral lipstick (I wear that, or fire engine red. that’s it.), a nail file and small clippers, clear nail polish, a folding mirror, some rubber bands and barrettes, and a spare pair of earrings. No foundation, powder, or blush because that feels stiff and itchy on my face and I often break out either in zitsapalooza or, even more fun, a rash. Oh, there’s a thing of chapstick in there too, and a mini bottle of hand lotion.

If I were working in an office again I’d add a travel tooth brush and paste and some mints, as well as tucking in whatever nailpolish I’m wearing in case I need to to a touch up.

I can apply eyeliner, but I’ve never used a lash curler. Or fake lashes.

    Your lip balm looks great.

I bet you’d look really fantastic with a herring bone braid along your hairline.

I’m YouTubing herringbone braids as I type this, since I’m on day 3 hair and have no intention of washing it until tonight. Your makeup kit might be minimal but holy cow is it more organized than mine. I have 2. Neither of them contains anything I actually use. I think my new makeup might be the little push I need to sort through and throw out expired stuff/mostly empty mascara/all the eyeshadows that make my eyelids itch.

      • Brigid Keely says:

Oh, I used to have all kinds of expired make up and stuff I’d never use. I did a HUGE purge before moving at one point and put some of the specialty stuff (including clear mascara and purple eyeliner) into a halloween costume bin.

For the past year, that has been the theme of my life– doing huge purges of stuff I don’t use/need. It’s liberating and also difficult.

I should take photos of my nailpolish collection. I love doing my nails and have a lot of polish (including, uh, about 5 different teals) but don’t fancy them up as often as I could. THAT is my big makeup splurge. Someday I might splurge on Butter nailpolish. I threw out about half of it because it was old, dried out, I never actually wore it, it was poor quality, etc. I still have.. uhm… a lot. And keep seeing more that I want.

The lip balm is a great color on you. I am a huge fan of lip stuck with spf and I love e.l.f. makes it in such great colors!

hmm. I”ll have to check this brand out. I just decided this weekend that I needed to start doing more – my routine (and not just summer, pretty much since before pregnancy) consists of a mild cleanser and chapstick. Not even sunscreen or moisterizer. My hair was lucky if it was brushed before I threw it into a pony tail (and I do work in an office).
I went to Sephora on Monday and spent way too much money on an all over powder foundation, concealer, mascara and Sugar lip stuff. I did it yesterday and today. So far, so good. We’ll see how long I keep it up. I do look and feel better – my face looks brighter, even happier. If I can keep this up, I’ll let myself splurge on some ELF because I certainly can’t afford to go back to Sephora. (frankly, I couldn’t afford it this go around but was so tired of my face looking “tired” and didn’t know where else to go.)

    • bebehblog says:

My downfall is the makeup counters at the mall. I think “I’ll just go get advice on a lipstick color” and before I know it I’ve dropped $150 on a ton of makeup I abandon after just a couple days. My entire haul this time? $22.

Love the lips! And that child is ridiculously cute.

  5. Danielle says:

Love the look! I enjoy keeping my routine under 10 minutes so I just stick with the basics and change up things like eyeshadow when I need something different.

    • bebehblog says:

That’s a great idea. I can’t ever remember what I’ve bought so somehow always end up with 5 blue eyeshadows and no subtle ones. It’s great that e.l.f. lets me pick up ALL the colors without going over my budget!

  6. I am a mix of the two– on a good day, I do the whole thing- moisturize, foundation, powder, highlighting eyeshadow, subtle smokey eye, eyeliner, mascara AND gloss– but it only takes me 5 minutes. Most days? foundation, mascara, and gloss. I feel better if I take the time to do it, but lets face it, sometimes there just isn’t time! :) LOVE the lip gloss!

    • bebehblog says:

I need you to come show me how to do a subtle smokey eye, since on me it is ALWAYS just a big dark smudge and the “punched in the face” look isn’t a good one.

  7. merin says:

You look great! I needed a reason to go to Target! (No, not really, who needs a reason?) I actually need yoga pants too, so it sounds like a win-win.

  8. I am the mom in the preschool drop off with NO makeup on whatsoever – I like my sleep too much to get up even one extra minute early. BUT, I am also the girl who goes nuts for special occasions – like false eyelashes nuts. There is no in-between over her. Moderation? What?

  9. Sarah says:

Hey gorgeous! Shopping spree sounds fun! Makeup shopping spree even more fun! I have a hard time spending lots of dollars on makeup, there’s always something else. Perhaps when Target finally gets to Canada I can check out these Elf products you speak of.

  10. Eyeliner is my one must-have! I’m pretty lazy outside of that.

  11. I bought the eyelash curler too…. and wish I had my two year olds eyelashes! You look beautiful with and without makeup!
