Absolutely, completely, in entirely NO WAY Wordless Wednesday

Ladies and gentleman, we have a…..

GIRL!

My bank account is already weeping.

Besides THAT awesomeness, I am happy to report the baby looks perfect. For some reason, as focused as I’ve been on the gender, I’ve been secretly freaking out about the rest of the scan to the point where I’ve been waking up regularly at 2 am to obsess about it. Maybe it’s because this pregnancy feels so different from the first one I have a hard time believing it can be “normal.” Maybe it’s because after two years in the mommy-blogging world I have a better understanding of what a questionable or poor or tragic result means. Reading about it in What To Expect just doesn’t terrify me the way seeing it spelled out in black and white and gray and red and every rainbow color of emotion on the internet does. But the tech took a zillion measurements and was very thorough and said several times everything looked perfect and normal and good.

So for the record, the “high heartbeat means it’s a girl” old wives tale proved 100% true for me. Which makes it scientifically proven. IT’S SCIENCE, PEOPLE.

p.s. Oh God now I DO have to pick a name. I think we’ll probably narrow it down to a couple and make the announcement after she’s (SHE!!!!) born. So don’t be mad when I won’t tell you what it is until then – I DON’T KNOW.

p.p.s. Once this sinks in, expect a huge freak out over everything from whether or not I need to give Baby Girl her (HER!!!!!) own nursery to how exactly one changes little girl diapers.

p.p.p.s. I think E might cry. Please tell him girls are awesome and that they DON’T always grow up and break your heart. Although I think half his disappointment is not getting to use the awesome boy name we picked out. This time.

  5. Meg says:

I can guarantee you that the second–the very second–he lays eyes on her (HER!!!), he will realize that he always wanted a girl. My dad also had a boy first and a girl second, and he tells people that having a daughter first was different. He immediately just fell in love with me, in a different and unexplainable way. E won’t stand a chance! And if he’s as awesome with her as he has been with Baby E., she will be a complete and total Daddy’s Girl, and will never break his heart.

  6. Yay! Congratulations!!

  7. MKP says:

    Congraaats again.

And for Big E, my dad and I enjoy a PHENOMENAL relationship – he taught me sports and introduced me to movies and books that are my favorites still. I did a lot of the fun girly stuff with my mom as a little girl, but plenty (if not most) of the hobbies and interests I carried into adulthood are things I share first and foremost with my dad. Two weeks ago he sent me a picture of a rose called “Daddy’s Girl” from a botanical garden he visited.

(Not that you’re not in for some quality mother-daughter (daughter!) time, Suzanne – giggles, feminism, nail polish, Etsy hairbows and all, you’re going to rock this and no mistake :)

P.P.S omg your daughter (daughter!!) already has sexynekkiepics on the internet…lulz.

  8. StraderSpiel says:

Congratulations! Like I told E, since he breeds warriors you’ll have to name her Xena (you know for Warrior Princess…)
And after 2 boys let me just say that girls are completely different. And he may balk now, but only because he knows the sun will rise & set around his baby girl!

  9. Sara says:

Yay yay yay yay yay!!!! Ya, your bank account doesn’t stand a chance.. =)

  10. lalaland13 says:

Congrats, Davises! Yay for one of each! To Big E: Relax, dude. As others have said, you’ll be fine. Besides, you’re married to a girl, and she’s not THAT scary, is she? Girl-children are still children. Besides, you never know how they might defy gender stereotypes: my brother hates most sports whereas I love football.

And why are girls harder to say no to than boys? Unless you put a ribbon in their hair, there’s nothing all that different about appearance, is there? At least on the outside. I mean, I’m not trying to be a smartass, but I hear that a lot. I think the baby of the family might have more to do with it (and this one might be a middle child, right? Oh no! Dysfunction!) in my case, because my mom claims I was spoiled rotten.

Anyway, speaking of appearances, that’s the first sonogram where I have actually been able to discern girl parts, or really any parts at all. Most of the time if someone says “It’s a boy!” and shows me a sonogram, I just kind of nod politely. So congrats to Baby Girl Davis for having a distinctive Lady Gaga.

i’m so, so, so excited for you! i can only imagine the range of emotions playing out in your head – not to mention the fact that you get to call her a HER now! yay! i only hope to follow in your footsteps one day. always my dream to have a little boy first. then a little girl. that way older bro can always protect his little sis! love it.

  12. TMae says:

    Congratulations! :-D

  13. barbra says:

    Congratulations!!! That is so awesome!!

  14. Halfg1rl says:

CONGRATS on baby GIRL!! I have a girl and they are absolutely wonderful. Tell Evan that he will love her just as much as he loves little E. He will tend to be more protective of her but will enjoy her just as much. My husband loves having a girl…Congrats again to the family!!

  15. Suz B says:

Congrats! That’s awesome! Bring on the pink/purple/ruffles! :)

  16. afteriris says:

Hurrah! A girl! I have many many baby girl tips!

The nappy changing thing: First of all, when baby girls are born they have a kind of “period” for a week or so because all your hormones are still in their bodies. Also, I was really nervous about which way I was wiping and always worried when poo got in various crevices fearing urinary tract infections, but Ava never got one and my pediatrician father thought I was mad to be so concerned. So don’t worry about that. The best thing with a girl is that they can have loads of nappy off time and you don’t have to worry about them spraying the room with pee. My whole house is covered in Moe’s pee.

Your boy’s name is awesome… oh well, NEXT time, as you say!
Also, it took us to get used to the idea of having a boy; with all our previous experience being girlie, but I can kind of predict say that gender disappointment just wont factor after the first week of knowing.
(Also how about Mae as a first name? Evan and Mae sounds cute!)

  17. Ariel says:

    Congrats!!!!
I can’t decide (like I have a choice) if I want a girl or a boy next time. I love my daughter so much and she is SO MUCH FUN, I’d take a million just like her. I do think it would be easier if she didn’t have to share princess status with her daddy (not that my husband would be bad about that but her biological dad ignores her now for the most part since he had a daughter with his new wife) and I would like a boy too….
I can speak from experience on this one though: GIRLS ARE SO. MUCH. FUN.

  18. brigidkeely says:

    Girl?

    JELLUS. >:C

You are going to have SO MUCH FUN.

  19. Amy says:

OMG! See….mother’s intuition is WRONG. :)

    CONGRATS!!! Girls are awesome!

  20. Congratulations!!! that is so EXCITING!!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!!! E shouldn’t worry, he’s gonna make a great daddy to that little girl! You guys are gonna have so much fun!!! (and I bet you can’t WAIT to decorate the nursery and dress this baby in every Marlo wears! :)

  21. Brittany says:

Wipe front to back and clean out all the crevices. Easy peasy! :)

    CONGRATS LADY!

  22. Amanda says:

    Yay, congrats, fellow soon-to-be-mother-of-a-daughter!

Ooh, Ruby is also on our short list. I can’t tell you any others because my sister-in-law sometimes reads this blog (my own fault because I send her links to things about baby carrying and cloth diapers) but I can tell you that they are all awesome. Naming a girl is so much fun!

  23. bellegourmande says:

Congrats!!! I am very, very excited for y’all.

  24. Audrey says:

Dude welcome to club pink!! Seriously, Chris asked me the other day if we could construct a “poop guard” because boy testicles work so well we are both concerned about the gush forward that could happen with girls. I suggested a balloon filled with baby powder as a prosthesis.

  25. Emmie Bee says:

I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU MAMA! If you register somewhere national let me know. I am STOKED. STOKED. And yeah, Sawyer’s poops are a total mess. Poop-in-the-puss like no one’s biz!

  26. Cole says:

Congratulations!!! Mommy wouldn’t know what to do with a girl baby either, but she hopes to get the chance to figure it out… (eventually – maybe – if she even has a second kid. She’s not pregnant or anything)

  27. SO super excited for you guys and your soon to be onslaught of pink stuff. Girls rule!! Tell E he will love being dad to a little girl, and that she will always have her big bro to look out for her :)

  28. Suzanne says:

Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m totally biased, but girls RULE. Congratulations!!!

  29. mama23bears says:

YAY! girls are so fun!! congratulations!! pink, pink everywhere!!!

  30. That is awesome! So happy for you guys! xoxoxox

  31. E says:

For the record, I am not upset it is a girl. I am upset because I know that the sun will rise and set on her. And that she will have me wrapped around her little finger. That’s the problem. I am extremely excited to raise a baby girl. However, I am way more comfortable with the boy stuff. And like S said, I love LOVE LOVE!!!11!! the boys name we had picked out. That is really the ONLY thing I am disappointed about. That we don’t get to use that name yet. She has no idea the hypocrisy that is her teenage years. Muhahahahaha.

p.s. In case she reads this one day, remember baby girl that I will always love you. Everything that I do that pisses you off, is because I am trying to prevent you from becoming a soulless stripper.

  32. Swistle says:

    Oh. My. GRACIOUS.

I am so glad! Girls are GREAT!
